A Yacht Shipyard as a Concert Hall

The Robbe & Berking Yacht Shipyard on Kielseng, directly on Flensburg's city harbor, is not just a place of craftsmanship but also one of Northern Germany's most beautiful summer venues. In its large boat halls, where the family business restores classic motor and sailing yachts and builds replicas of famous classics, concerts of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival have been held since 2014. The concept is successful: acoustics, atmosphere, shipyard romance, and classical music create a concert experience that is unique in Germany.

The SHMF and its Venues

The Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival is one of Europe's largest classical music festivals, bringing renowned musicians and ensembles to venues between Hamburg and Flensburg every year from early July to late August. The venues are deliberately chosen to be unusual: churches, castles, shipyards, monasteries, riding halls, and industrial monuments complement the classical concert halls.

Flensburg as an SHMF Location

Flensburg is represented with three SHMF venues in 2026 – in addition to the Robbe & Berking Boat Hall, the Stadttheater Flensburg and occasionally churches are on the list of venues. The boat hall has the highest atmospheric factor – anyone who has sat in this converted shipyard, with the smell of boat varnish in the air and yachts dimly visible in the background, will not forget the concert.

Program 2026

Two concerts are announced for 2026:

• The Real Group on Saturday, August 1, 2026, 7:30 PM – the legendary Swedish a cappella group, known for their blend of jazz, pop, and Swedish tradition.
• Mozart und Mambo on Sunday, August 2, 2026, 7:30 PM – a program that merges Mozart compositions with Cuban mambo rhythms, one of the SHMF's original crossover projects.

Flensburg and the Förde

Flensburg, an independent city in the far north of Germany on the Flensburg Fjord, is a bridgehead to the Danish border and boasts a particularly vibrant cultural landscape – with the city theater, the Phänomenta science museum, the Danish educational landscape, and a charming old town. An SHMF concert in the Robbe & Berking Boat Hall is the ideal opportunity to spend a summer evening in the Förde city.
