Arts and crafts and culinary delights around the historic watermill
On the Pentecost weekend, the Trittau Watermill Market brings together around 100 selected artisans and culinary exhibitors around the historic Trittau Watermill on the mill pond. The market is part of the German Mill Day, when traditional wind and water mills throughout Germany open their doors to the public on Whit Monday – a nationwide initiative that brings history and traditional craftsmanship to life.
The range of exhibitors reflects classic North German arts and crafts and modern design:
The culinary side of the market is equally remarkable:
Today, the Trittau Watermill is a cultural center and, with its mill pond, shapes the local character of the Trittau community. The historic mill is open during the market – you can visit the grinding mechanism, the rooms, and the interior. The market is organized by the Elke Baum Event Agency, which manages a number of similarly profiled arts and crafts markets in Northern Germany.
The municipality of Trittau is located in the District of Stormarn, in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, about 30 km east of Hamburg on the Bille river. With just under 9,000 inhabitants, Trittau is the main town of the Trittau office and has a well-preserved town center with a watermill, castle, and park. The mill market attracts visitors from Hamburg, Lübeck, and the entire region.
The 2026 edition continues the market's established format. Three days of arts and crafts and culinary delights by the mill pond, with the historic watermill as the central focal point. On Whit Monday, Trittau shops are also open from 12 pm to 5 pm, complementing the market visit with a stroll through the town center.
The organizer is the Elke Baum Event Agency, an established agency for arts and crafts markets in Northern Germany. The concept focuses on high exhibitor quality – the approximately 100 exhibitors are selected, not based on the order of registration. Live craft demonstrations, regional gastronomy, and open access to the watermill are part of the regular program.
