The market is part of the German Mill Day, when traditional wind and water mills throughout Germany open their doors to the public on Whit Monday – a nationwide initiative that brings history and traditional craftsmanship to life.

The market is organized by the Elke Baum Event Agency, which manages a number of similarly profiled arts and crafts markets in Northern Germany.

Trittau and the District of Stormarn

The municipality of Trittau is located in the District of Stormarn, in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, about 30 km east of Hamburg on the Bille river. With just under 9,000 inhabitants, Trittau is the main town of the Trittau office and has a well-preserved town center with a watermill, castle, and park. The mill market attracts visitors from Hamburg, Lübeck, and the entire region.
