About Mühlenmarkt Trittau

The Trittau Watermill Market takes place around the historic Trittau Watermill on the mill pond – as part of the German Mill Day, when traditional mills all over Germany open their doors. On the Pentecost weekend 2026, from May 23rd to 25th, around 100 selected exhibitors will present high-quality arts and crafts, creative design, fine delicacies, and live craft demonstrations in an idyllic setting between the watermill and the mill pond. Artistic sculptures, hand-turned pottery, individual fashion, exquisite jewelry, and home and garden accessories line the market. The Fahlenkamp herb bakery and "Kuchenwerk" will be serving refreshments in the watermill, along with wood-fired street food, crêpes, donuts, almonds, and ice cream. Free admission, free parking. Open daily 10 am–6 pm. Organizer: Elke Baum Event Agency.

Mill, Market, and Mill Day

On the Pentecost weekend, the Trittau Watermill Market brings together around 100 selected artisans and culinary exhibitors around the historic Trittau Watermill on the mill pond. The market is part of the German Mill Day, when traditional wind and water mills throughout Germany open their doors to the public on Whit Monday – a nationwide initiative that brings history and traditional craftsmanship to life.

What You'll Find at the Market

The range of exhibitors reflects classic North German arts and crafts and modern design:

  • Artistic sculptures made of stone, wood, metal, and ceramic
  • Hand-turned pottery and ceramics
  • Individual fashion and textile design
  • Exquisite jewelry and goldsmith work
  • Home and garden accessories – handmade beach chairs with maritime furnishings are among the classics
  • Live craft demonstrations – potter's wheel, blacksmith, potter at work

Culinary Delights by the Mill Pond

The culinary side of the market is equally remarkable:

  • Fahlenkamp Herb Bakery – freshly baked bread made from traditional flours from the mill
  • "Kuchenwerk" – homemade cakes in the watermill
  • Street food from the grill, wood-fired specialties
  • Crêpes, fresh donuts, candied almonds, ice cream

The Trittau Watermill

Today, the Trittau Watermill is a cultural center and, with its mill pond, shapes the local character of the Trittau community. The historic mill is open during the market – you can visit the grinding mechanism, the rooms, and the interior. The market is organized by the Elke Baum Event Agency, which manages a number of similarly profiled arts and crafts markets in Northern Germany.

Trittau and the District of Stormarn

The municipality of Trittau is located in the District of Stormarn, in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, about 30 km east of Hamburg on the Bille river. With just under 9,000 inhabitants, Trittau is the main town of the Trittau office and has a well-preserved town center with a watermill, castle, and park. The mill market attracts visitors from Hamburg, Lübeck, and the entire region.

Mühlenmarkt Trittau — edition 2026

The Trittau Watermill Market 2026 runs on the Pentecost weekend from May 23rd to 25th, daily from 10 am to 6 pm, around the Trittau Watermill. Around 100 exhibitors with arts and crafts, design, catering (Fahlenkamp herb bakery, street food, crêpes). Market is part of German Mill Day on Whit Monday. Free admission, free parking. Organizer: Elke Baum Event Agency.

The 2026 edition continues the market's established format. Three days of arts and crafts and culinary delights by the mill pond, with the historic watermill as the central focal point. On Whit Monday, Trittau shops are also open from 12 pm to 5 pm, complementing the market visit with a stroll through the town center.

The organizer is the Elke Baum Event Agency, an established agency for arts and crafts markets in Northern Germany. The concept focuses on high exhibitor quality – the approximately 100 exhibitors are selected, not based on the order of registration. Live craft demonstrations, regional gastronomy, and open access to the watermill are part of the regular program.
