Wittenberg Christmas Market

The 2026 edition continues the proven three-location concept. Market Square, Cranach Courtyards, and Church Square become the extended Advent center of the City of Luther. The Luther House also opens longer during the Advent season and offers special guided tours.

Main Market — Wittenberg Market Square (November 12 – December 30, 2026)

• Daily 11:00 am – 8:00 pm (closed December 24/25)
• Wooden stalls with mulled wine, bratwurst, gingerbread, Advent decorations
• Weekend stage program with music and children's entertainment
• Opening evening in early November with a ceremonial speech by the mayor

Market of Beautiful Things — Cranach Courtyards

• First Advent weekend (likely November 27–29, 2026)
• Over 40 artists and craftspeople
• Fri 3 pm–8 pm / Sat 11 am–8 pm / Sun 11 am–7 pm
• Renaissance courtyard as a backdrop

Christmas Market of Associations — St. Mary's Church

• Advent weekend (likely December 4–6, 2026)
• Stalls from local associations, schools, initiatives
• Dance groups, music, visit from St. Nicholas

Advent at the Luther House

• December 2026, extended opening hours
• Special guided tours, concerts in the historical collection

Getting There

By train: Lutherstadt Wittenberg Hauptbahnhof (ICE stop), 10-minute walk from the station to the old town.

By car: A9 exit Wittenberg. Parking garages at the main station and at the castle.

Opening Hours

Main Market: daily 11 am–8 pm (closed Dec 24/25). Market of Beautiful Things: first Advent weekend, Fri 3 pm–8 pm / Sat 11 am–8 pm / Sun 11 am–7 pm. Christmas Market of Associations: December 5–7 (dates as previous year), Fri 4 pm–8 pm / Sat–Sun 1 pm–8 pm.

Notes

Lutheran tradition is palpable – Advent services in the town and castle churches are free to attend. Luther House open longer during the market. Can be combined with a short break.
