The international showcase of Trakehner horse breeding — stallion licensing, auctions, and gala show in the Holstenhallen
The Trakehner horse is one of Germany's most prestigious warmblood breeds. The breed originated from 1732 onwards in the East Prussian state stud farm Trakehnen (now Yasnaya Polyana, Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia) as a result of systematically breeding purebreds (English Thoroughbreds and Arabian stallions) with the robust local horses of East Prussia. After fleeing and expulsion in 1944/45, Trakehner breeders saved a small remnant population to West Germany and founded the Trakehner Verband in Neumünster — which remains the center of global Trakehner breeding to this day.
The Holstenhallen Neumünster are one of Schleswig-Holstein's most important event venues, a complex of several halls equipped for equestrian sports. They have been the home of the Trakehner Stallion Market for decades and also host major horse shows and auctions from other associations annually.
Neumünster is an independent city in the heart of Schleswig-Holstein with around 80,000 inhabitants. It calls itself the equestrian city — Trakehner breeding and the Holstenhallen are the main reasons for this. Its central location between Hamburg and Kiel, with ICE high-speed train connections, makes Neumünster easily accessible for international visitors.
With its 64th edition, the Trakehner Stallion Market continues its unbroken tradition since the 1960s. The organizer, Trakehner Verband, is preparing the event for the last weekend of November 2026; the exact date will be officially confirmed in the second half of the year.
As in previous years, the four festive days will follow the classic program: stallion licensing (presentation and recognition of new breeding stallions), auctions (stallions, riding horses, mares), Gala Show on the festive evening, and expert seminars. An international audience from Europe, America, and Australia is expected.
Detailed program and tickets available at trakehner-verband.de.
Day tickets and tickets for the festive evening are available through the Trakehner Verband. Auctions are generally open to the public; catalogs are available for a fee.
By car: A7 Hamburg–Flensburg, exit Neumünster-Süd or Neumünster-Mitte. By train: ICE and IC trains stop at Neumünster Hauptbahnhof (main station); from there, it's a 10-minute walk or a short city bus ride to the Holstenhallen.
Tickets for the stallion licensing, auctions, and Gala Show are offered through the Trakehner Verband (trakehner-verband.de). Day tickets and tickets for the festive evening are available separately, as are multi-day passes.
The event attracts thousands of international guests — hotels in Neumünster and the surrounding area (Bad Bramstedt, Bordesholm) are heavily booked during the festival days. Early booking is recommended.
