One of the largest folk festivals in the Stormarn district — three days of funfair, marquee, and fireworks
In 2026, the Volks- und Schützenfest Trittau will take place from Friday, August 14th, to Sunday, August 16th — three days of folk festival on the Schützenplatz at Zum Schützenplatz 1. The event is organized by the Schützenverein von Trittau und Umgegend e.V., one of the most traditional marksmen's associations in the Stormarn district. The festival is among the largest folk festivals in the region and attracts visitors from all over the eastern Hamburg metropolitan area.
The Schützenfest traditionally opens on Friday evening with an evening serenade at Rathausplatz — a quiet, festive opening before the hustle and bustle begins on the Schützenplatz. Throughout the weekend, there will be parades of the marksmen and their departments through Trittau's town center, and the marksmen's king competition will crown the association's new monarchs.
For all three days, the Schützenplatz transforms into a small funfair: rides (bumper cars, carousels, children's rides), candy stalls, snack vendors, and game booths attract families in particular. The music program runs in the large marquee — in 2026, the cover band Tin Lizzy will play on Saturday evening for a party night. Sunday features the traditional suckling pig feast for everyone: a communal meal under the open sky, open to all.
The highlight and conclusion of the festival is the grand fireworks display on Sunday evening — the sky above Trittau's Schützenplatz will be illuminated for about 20 minutes. The fireworks are one of the most famous attractions of the Trittau Schützenfest and draw additional visitors from neighboring communities.
Trittau is located in the Stormarn district, about 30 kilometers east of Hamburg, and with approximately 8,700 inhabitants, it is the seat of the Amt Trittau (Trittau administrative district). The historic watermill, the mill pond, and its central location between Hamburg and Lübeck make Trittau a popular destination for day trips — the Volks- und Schützenfest is the most important summer event in the community's calendar.
The Volks- und Schützenfest Trittau in 2026 will again run classically over three days. Opening on Friday evening with an evening serenade at Rathausplatz, followed by the opening of the Schützenplatz with funfair, marquee, and association program. Saturday is dedicated to the party night with the cover band Tin Lizzy, Sunday features the suckling pig feast and concludes with the fireworks finale.
