About Burbach Christmas Market

When the historic town center of Burbach is bathed in a warm sea of lights on the second weekend of Advent, the magical lights return: Around 60 stalls line Jägerstraße between the Römer and the Alte Vogtei, complemented by arts and crafts in the Römer-Passage and a diverse stage program. The 32nd edition on December 5 and 6, 2026, is one of the most charming Christmas market experiences in the Siegerland — a classic Northern German Advent festival in the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, on the border between Sauerland and Westerwald.

Magical Lights in Siegerland Half-Timbered Architecture

The Burbach Christmas Market is a staple of the South Westphalian Advent calendar. In the historic town center of the municipality of Burbach in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district, nestled in half-timbered alleys around the Römer and the Alte Vogtei, the center transforms into a small, intimate Advent world every year on the second weekend of Advent. The slogan Magical Lights is no coincidence: thousands of lights, fir branches, and lovingly decorated huts shape the atmosphere.

History and Tradition

What began over three decades ago as a small Advent market by the municipality of Burbach has developed into an event with supra-regional appeal. The 32nd edition in December 2026 continues the tradition and is part of a long line of markets that help shape Burbach's image as the City of Light in the Siegerland.

Stalls, Arts and Crafts, and Hut Boulevard

Around 60 stalls along Jägerstraße offer everything that makes a classic Christmas market: mulled wine, Feuerzangenbowle (mulled rum punch), bratwurst, potato pancakes, crêpes, and sweet specialties. Arts and crafts are offered in parallel on four floors of the Römer-Passage and in the Alte Vogtei — jewelry, ceramics, textiles, wood, and glass art from the region. The "Hut Boulevard" along the main axis makes strolling an experience.

Stage Program and Family Focus

On Saturday evening, a cover band (most recently EVE) traditionally provides danceable open-air atmosphere; Sunday is dedicated to family day: a visit from St. Nicholas with chocolate fir trees, a fire show for children with "Der Lemmi," and craft activities in the rooms of the Vogtei. Even the first female night watchman of Burbach, Michelle Hinkebecker, occasionally accompanies St. Nicholas through the town.

Burbach in the Siegen-Wittgenstein District

Burbach is located in the tri-border area of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, and Rhineland-Palatinate, at the southern end of the Siegerland. The Christmas market is embedded in a tourist region known for its half-timbered villages, hiking opportunities, and the neighboring Westerwald area.

Burbach Christmas Market — edition 2026

The 32nd edition of the Burbach Christmas Market takes place on the second weekend of Advent in 2026. Around 60 stalls, arts and crafts in the Römer-Passage and Alte Vogtei, a live program on Saturday evening, and a family program on Sunday characterize the weekend. The free admission and compact location around the half-timbered ensemble make the market one of the most atmospheric Advent dates in the southern Siegerland.

For 2026, the municipality of Burbach is continuing the successful concept: the Hut Boulevard along Jägerstraße connects the Römer with the Alte Vogtei, with the Römer-Passage in between serving as an arts and crafts market on four floors. Mulled wine, Feuerzangenbowle, and regional dishes are served at numerous stalls.

The exact stage program will be published by the municipality of Burbach in late autumn 2026. As in previous years, a cover band is expected on Saturday evening, followed by a family program on Sunday with a visit from St. Nicholas, a fire show, and children's activities.
