About Brückenfestival

The Brückenfestival is one of Nuremberg's most unusual summer festivals: a free open-air festival held under the arches of the Theodor-Heuss-Bridge on the banks of the Pegnitz — directly on the Pegnitz meadows, within the noise and echo architecture of the bridge foundations. Two stages — a main stage outdoors plus a tent stage — feature regional and international bands across all alternative genres. Fully organised by volunteers, with a clearly formulated anti-discrimination policy. August 7th and 8th, 2026.

An Unusual Festival Setting

There are many festivals in Nuremberg — from the commercial Rock im Park to the traditional Bardentreffen. What makes the Brückenfestival unique is its setting. It doesn't take place on a classic festival ground, but directly under the arches of the Theodor-Heuss-Bridge in the north of Nuremberg, on the Pegnitz meadows by the river. The bridge's architecture creates an unusual acoustic atmosphere and a distinctive look — and gives the festival its name.

"Free and Open to All"

The festival is completely free of charge. The festival website states programmatically: "The festival is free and open to all!". This distinguishes the Brückenfestival from almost all other open-air festivals of its size — and is part of a deliberately inclusive self-positioning. Funding comes from sponsorship (N-ERGIE, Sparkasse Nürnberg), municipal funding, and the sale of food and drinks on the festival grounds.

Two Stages — Main Stage + Tent Stage

Bands play alternately on two stages. The main stage is set up directly under the bridge arches — the festival uses the bridge as a natural "roof". The tent stage offers a more intimate second stage for smaller acts and alternative genres. The programme combines regional and international bands, with a focus on alternative/independent music — Indie, Post-Rock, Punk, Folk, Singer-Songwriter.

Awareness and "No Nipples Policy"

The festival takes social responsibility very seriously. There is a clear on-site awareness team, a comprehensive anti-discrimination policy (against racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia), accessible areas and reserved spaces for wheelchair users near the main stage, and a programmatic "No Nipples Policy": The organisers explicitly point out that not all festival-goers have the same social freedom to show their upper body in summer — and ask everyone, out of solidarity with those who cannot, to refrain from going topless.

Entirely Volunteer-Run

The Brückenfestival thrives on entirely volunteer commitment: from setup to stage technology, bar service, security, and waste disposal — almost everything is done by volunteers. Helpers are actively sought on the festival website, with no prior experience required. This volunteer structure is also why the festival can remain free of charge.

Afterparties until 5 AM

On both festival evenings, there are afterparties in friendly Nuremberg clubs (Desi, MUZclub) until 5 AM. Festival guests can enjoy the festival by the bridge until 11 PM/midnight and then head to the afterparty in the city — an extension of the established Nuremberg alternative club scene.

Brückenfestival — edition 2026

The Brückenfestival Nürnberg 2026 takes place on Friday, August 7th, and Saturday, August 8th, 2026, on the Pegnitz meadows under the Theodor-Heuss-Bridge. Two stages — a main stage under the bridge arches and a tent stage — feature regional and international bands from Indie, Post-Rock, Punk, and Singer-Songwriter genres. Completely free admission, entirely organised by volunteers, with a clear awareness team and anti-discrimination policy. Afterparties at Desi and MUZclub until 5 AM.

The 2026 edition is confirmed for August 7-8, 2026, on the official festival website bruecken-festival.de and the Nuremberg tourism portal (tourismus.nuernberg.de).

The complete lineup and schedules for both stages will be published in advance on the festival website and via the festival's social media channels. Sponsors include N-ERGIE, Sparkasse Nürnberg, and the City of Nuremberg.
