District Kirchweih with lake view at Wöhrder See
The Kirchweih Wöhrd is one of the fixed district Kirchweihen in the city of Nuremberg in Bavaria. It is celebrated at the Wöhrder Talübergang on Bartholomäusstraße, directly on the northern shore of the Wöhrder See – a location that gives the Kirchweih its special charm.
The focus is on the festival tent with an adjoining beer garden and a view of the lake. In addition, there are amusement rides, stalls, and a varied music program with several live bands on the festival days.
The Kirchweih traditionally opens with the beer tapping ceremony, accompanied by a cannon shot. The program also includes the festival service of the St. Bartholomäus parish with subsequent coffee and cake, a senior citizens' afternoon, and a neighborhood evening. The festive conclusion is a grand baroque fireworks display over the Wöhrder See.
The Kirchweih is organized by the Vorstadtverein Nürnberg-Wöhrd von 1877 together with the Süddeutscher Schaustellerverband and the St. Bartholomäus parish. The Kirchweih is a piece of lived district identity in eastern Nuremberg and attracts visitors from all over the city every year.
Unlike some rural Kärwa (Kirchweih), the Wöhrder Kirchweih takes place in the middle of an urban area – combining big-city flair with Franconian festival customs. It is easily accessible by public transport and is a fixed part of Nuremberg's event calendar.
The Wöhrd Kirchweih 2026 will take place from Friday, August 21, to Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The venue is again the Wöhrder Talübergang on Bartholomäusstraße, on the northern shore of the Wöhrder See.
As usual, the festival tent and beer garden with lake views, amusement rides, and stalls will characterize the event. It kicks off with the beer tapping ceremony, accompanied by a cannon shot, and concludes with a grand baroque fireworks display over the lake. Additionally, there will be a festival service, a senior citizens' afternoon, and a neighborhood evening.
Note: The detailed band program for 2026 will be published by the Vorstadtverein Wöhrd shortly before the Kirchweih. In previous years, bands such as Gipfelgaudi, Saustark, and Country Friends performed.
The Wöhrder Talübergang is centrally located in Nuremberg and easily accessible by U-Bahn, tram, and bus (VAG). Arrive by car via the city center; parking is limited in the surrounding area – public transport recommended.
Admission to the Kirchweih grounds is free; food, drinks, and rides are at your own expense.
Annually at the end of August at Wöhrder See.
