About Wöhrder Kirchweih

The Wöhrder Kirchweih is one of Nuremberg's traditional district Kirchweihen, celebrated at the end of August at the Wöhrder Talübergang on Bartholomäusstraße. With a view of the Wöhrder See, it combines Franconian customs with a festival tent, beer garden, amusement rides, and stalls. Highlights include the beer tapping ceremony with a cannon shot, live music on several evenings, the festival service of St. Bartholomäus, and a grand baroque fireworks display over the lake – a convivial Volksfest in the heart of Nuremberg.

Franconian Kirchweih Tradition at Wöhrder See

The Kirchweih Wöhrd is one of the fixed district Kirchweihen in the city of Nuremberg in Bavaria. It is celebrated at the Wöhrder Talübergang on Bartholomäusstraße, directly on the northern shore of the Wöhrder See – a location that gives the Kirchweih its special charm.

Festival Tent, Beer Garden, and Amusement Rides

The focus is on the festival tent with an adjoining beer garden and a view of the lake. In addition, there are amusement rides, stalls, and a varied music program with several live bands on the festival days.

Customs and Community

The Kirchweih traditionally opens with the beer tapping ceremony, accompanied by a cannon shot. The program also includes the festival service of the St. Bartholomäus parish with subsequent coffee and cake, a senior citizens' afternoon, and a neighborhood evening. The festive conclusion is a grand baroque fireworks display over the Wöhrder See.

Supported by the Wöhrd Suburb Association

The Kirchweih is organized by the Vorstadtverein Nürnberg-Wöhrd von 1877 together with the Süddeutscher Schaustellerverband and the St. Bartholomäus parish. The Kirchweih is a piece of lived district identity in eastern Nuremberg and attracts visitors from all over the city every year.

A Volksfest in the Middle of Nuremberg

Unlike some rural Kärwa (Kirchweih), the Wöhrder Kirchweih takes place in the middle of an urban area – combining big-city flair with Franconian festival customs. It is easily accessible by public transport and is a fixed part of Nuremberg's event calendar.
