Erlangen's Largest Carnival Parade
The Brucker Faschingszug is the largest and best-known carnival parade in Erlangen, an independent city in Middle Franconia, Bavaria. The venue is the Bruck district, where the streets fill with tens of thousands of revellers on Carnival Sunday. Around 60,000 visitors are expected, making the parade one of the region's largest carnival processions.
Colourful 'Gaudiwurm' Through Bruck
The parade starts at Brucker Marktplatz and proceeds via Felix-Klein-Straße, Bunsenstraße, Tennenloher Straße, and Fürther Straße back to the Marktplatz for the farewell. Decorated floats, walking groups, carnival guards, and music bands provide a colourful spectacle between 2 PM and 4 PM. Sweets, music, and exuberant spirits characterise the afternoon.
The Brucker Gaßhenker as Organisers
The parade is organised by the 'Die Brucker Gaßhenker' 1970 e.V. carnival society, which has been preserving Franconian carnival traditions in the district for decades. The parade management ensures a smooth process; road closures and parking bans are in effect in the parade area, and several city bus routes are diverted.
Franconian Carnival with Tradition
The Brucker Faschingszug is a firm fixture of the Middle Franconian carnival season and a unifying event for the entire district. It stands in the tradition of Franconian carnival, which has developed its own character alongside the Rhenish Carnival with its parades, guards, and 'Büttenreden' (parody speeches).
