About Comic Salon Erlangen

The International Comic Salon Erlangen is the largest and most important festival for comic art in the German-speaking world. Every two years, the Middle Franconian city of Erlangen transforms into the capital of graphic literature for four days: around 300 exhibitors – publishers, agencies, comic dealers, and universities – and over 500 artists from all over the world come together for the comic fair, exhibitions, signing sessions, readings, and panel discussions. The highlight is the awarding of the Max und Moritz Prize, the most important award for graphic literature in the German-speaking world, at a festive gala in Erlangen's Markgrafentheater. The Salon is organized by the Culture and Leisure Department of the City of Erlangen.

Four Decades of Comic Art in Erlangen

Since 1984, the International Comic Salon Erlangen has been the central meeting point for the comic scene in the German-speaking world. Every two years – in even-numbered years – Erlangen's city center becomes a stage for graphic literature. The diverse program of exhibitions, lectures, readings, and panel discussions attracts an audience from home and abroad.

The Comic Fair

Around 300 exhibitors present their programs in the Heinrich-Lades-Halle and other locations: publishers, agencies, comic dealers, artist groups, individual artists, and comic classes from universities. The fair is the economic and creative heart of the Salon.

The Max und Moritz Prize

The festive awarding of the Max und Moritz Prize in the Markgrafentheater is one of the festival's highlights. The prize is considered the most important award for graphic literature in the German-speaking world and is presented in several categories as well as for lifetime achievement.

Exhibitions and Encounters

Exhibitions spread throughout the city center showcase international stars, German-language comics, emerging talents, and thematic country focuses – including at the Stadtmuseum and the Kunstpalais. Over 500 artists can be experienced at signing sessions, drawing sessions, artist talks, and readings.

Program for the Whole Family

With the four-day children's festival "Kinder lieben Comics" (Children Love Comics), the Comic Podium with expert lectures, a film festival, workshops, performances, and concerts, the Salon appeals to fans of all ages.
