Small, fine, and festive — the Advent market in the heart of the Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis
The Blumberg Christmas Market takes place every year on the Saturday before the 2nd Sunday of Advent — in 2026, this will be on December 5th. Stalls offering mulled wine, punch, gingerbread, bratwurst, crêpes, and candied almonds will open in the market square and along Tevesstraße in the center of the town, which has around 10,000 inhabitants, in the Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis. Local associations, schools, and kindergartens run stalls and collect donations for their projects.
In addition to culinary specialties, visitors will find arts and crafts and lovingly designed gift ideas from the region: handmade Advent wreaths, knitted items, woodwork, ceramics, jewelry, and Christmas decorations. The Blumberg Town Band and local choirs provide the musical Advent atmosphere.
The highlight of the evening is the traditional torchlight procession, which starts around 6 PM. Children and adults walk through the festively illuminated streets of Blumberg with torches — a ritual that many families have maintained as a firm tradition for years. Afterwards, the market concludes with mulled wine and music into the evening hours.
Blumberg is located in the south of the Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis at an altitude of around 700 meters, nestled between the Wutach Gorge, Baar, and the Hegau region. The town is the starting point of the famous Sauschwänzlebahn — a historic Black Forest railway with loops, tunnels, and viaducts. The Christmas market is one of the most traditional Advent events in the region.
The Blumberg Cultural Association has been organizing the Christmas market on a voluntary basis for many years in cooperation with the town administration and local associations. A large portion of the proceeds goes to local social projects.
