Traditional Blues Festival south of Berlin with "Blues am Rand" and the Fire Brigade
The Blues Open Air Niederlehme is a classic in the southern Berlin commuter belt. Organized by the association "Blues am Rand" in cooperation with the Niederlehme Volunteer Fire Brigade, the festival takes place every summer on the festival grounds in the Niederlehme district of the town of Königs Wusterhausen — on the southeastern edge of the capital region, about 30 km from Berlin-Mitte.
The festival has been held annually since the early 2000s. The 16th edition has already been documented, and the 18th took place in recent years — making the Blues Open Air one of the longest-running blues open-airs in Brandenburg. The mix of village festival atmosphere, blues scene meeting point, and fire brigade commitment makes the festival unique.
The program combines blues bands from the Berlin/Brandenburg region with national acts. Classic Chicago blues, Delta blues, blues rock, and folk blues are presented equally. Band performances follow from late afternoon into the night, often on a single stage in chronological order. The exact lineup will be announced in spring 2026 — band applications are accepted via the website Bluesamrand.
Niederlehme is a district of Königs Wusterhausen in the Dahme-Spreewald district — known for its castle of the same name and the old broadcasting center. With around 40,000 inhabitants, Königs Wusterhausen is the largest town in the district and the terminus of the S-Bahn line S46 from Berlin. Niederlehme itself, located on the Krumme See lake, retains the character of a village in the Mark Brandenburg — and it is precisely this atmosphere that defines the Blues Open Air: garden chairs, bratwurst, cold beer, and a few thousand people nodding to the music.
The Blues Open Air Niederlehme 2026 will take place in the summer of 2026 on the festival grounds in the Niederlehme district of Königs Wusterhausen. The exact date and the full lineup will be traditionally announced in spring by the association Blues am Rand.
