Königs Wusterhausen — Prussian Heritage Southeast of Berlin
Königs Wusterhausen, with just under 39,000 inhabitants, is a growing town in the Dahme-Spreewald district, located southeast of Berlin. The town owes its name to Friedrich Wilhelm I — the "Soldier King” — who had the old Wendish castle converted into a Prussian summer residence starting in 1717. Today, Königs Wusterhausen Castle serves as a museum and the town's cultural center; the adjacent Schlossplatz is the festival grounds for the annual town festival.
Town Festival on June 25, 2026 — From 11 AM to 6 PM
The Stadtfest Königs Wusterhausen will take place on Thursday, June 25, 2026 — open from 11 AM to 6 PM, making it a daytime event. Unlike many Brandenburg town festivals that focus on the evening, the Stadtfest KW is a daytime format that connects the castle, castle gardens, and town center.
Isabelle de Borchgrave — Paper Figures in the Castle
Inside the castle, Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave (born 1946 in Brussels) will exhibit her world-renowned paper figures. De Borchgrave specializes in painting and modeling paper; her life-sized figures of historical costumes — from the Renaissance to the Rococo — have been shown in museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs Paris, and the Hermitage St. Petersburg. The connection to the Prussian summer residence of Königs Wusterhausen is programmatic: courtly costume culture as paper art meets the historic castle.
Historical Games and Royal Figures
In the castle gardens, historical games will be available: boccia, skittles, hoop rolling, and other 18th-century games — designed for families with children. Friedrich Wilhelm I (played by Mike Sprenger) and his consort Sophie Dorothea (Manuela Sprenger) will mingle in historical costume in the castle area, available for conversations, photos, and small reenactments. A living tribute to the castle's Prussian past, which will particularly delight younger audiences.
Main Stage in the Town Center
Parallel to the castle area, the main stage in the town center will feature live music, dance, and entertainment. Bands from the region and dance groups from Königs Wusterhausen associations will perform alternately. Stalls, artisans, and gastronomic offerings will surround the stage. The event is designed as a family festival and ends accordingly early (6 PM) — many visitors travel from Berlin and the surrounding Berlin metropolitan area. Free admission.
