Blaues Band vom Strelasund

A Regatta with Tradition

The Blaues Band vom Strelasund has been held annually since 1992 on the first weekend in August. The distance race leads from the Hanseatic city of Stralsund across the Strelasund to Neuendorf on the island of Hiddensee. The race thus connects two special places in Vorpommern: the UNESCO World Heritage Hanseatic city on the mainland and the car-free, nature-protected island west of Rügen.

Sporting Competition on the Sund

The start is in the morning, traditionally around 10:30 am. The wind and currents of the Strelasund demand sailing skill from the crews. Over the years, the Blaues Band has established itself as a challenging, yet convivial regatta.

Zeesboote – Maritime Culture

A special feature: for several years now, Zeesboote have also been sailing. These shallow-draft fishing boats with their distinctive brown sails are part of the cultural heritage of the Bodden landscape. Their participation in the Blaues Band also makes the regatta a visual experience.

Organisers

The organisers are the Maritime Verein Stralow e.V. and Seesport Stralsund. For the Hanseatic city of Stralsund in the Vorpommern-Rügen district, the Blaues Band is a firm summer event in the programme.
