About Blaues Band

The Blaues Band vom Strelasund is a traditional distance race that is sailed every year on the first weekend in August. The course leads from the Hanseatic city of Stralsund across the Strelasund to Neuendorf on the car-free island of Hiddensee. Since its beginnings in the early 1990s, the regatta has become a firm fixture in the maritime calendar. For several years, the historic Zeesboot class with its characteristic brown sails has also been part of the field of participants – a piece of living boat culture from Vorpommern.

Getting There

Stralsund is accessible by train and via the A20 motorway. Start on the Stralsund waterfront, finish in Neuendorf on Hiddensee.

Tip

Spectators can reach Hiddensee by ferry from Stralsund or Schaprode.

A Regatta with Tradition

The Blaues Band vom Strelasund has been held annually since 1992 on the first weekend in August. The distance race leads from the Hanseatic city of Stralsund across the Strelasund to Neuendorf on the island of Hiddensee. The race thus connects two special places in Vorpommern: the UNESCO World Heritage Hanseatic city on the mainland and the car-free, nature-protected island west of Rügen.

Zeesboote – Maritime Culture

A special feature: for several years now, Zeesboote have also been sailing. These shallow-draft fishing boats with their distinctive brown sails are part of the cultural heritage of the Bodden landscape. Their participation in the Blaues Band also makes the regatta a visual experience.
