Family-friendly Heavy-Psych, Stoner, Doom Metal festival on König-Max-Höhe near Passau — three days open air with 21 bands
The Blackdoor Festival is an insider tip in the Southern German heavy music scene: founded in 2019, it has consistently developed into a family-friendly boutique festival, deliberately remaining small with around 700 visitors. The venue is the König-Max-Höhe in Wingersdorf, a district of Thyrnau in the Passau region — a slope overlooking the Bavarian Forest, giving the festival its characteristic natural backdrop. The smaller indoor version, Blackdoor Reflections, takes place in January; the open-air edition at the end of June is the main event of the year.
2026 marks the 6th edition. Past acts from previous years include Stoned Jesus, The Ocean Collective, Monkey3 — internationally relevant names from the Heavy Psych and Post-Metal scene, which have firmly established the festival within the genre. The genre spectrum: Heavy Psych, Stoner Rock, Blues Rock, Psych Rock, Doom Metal. What sets Blackdoor apart from larger festivals: no mass processing, short distances, personal atmosphere, bands and audience mingle around the campfire.
21 bands are confirmed, with the following headliners and prominent acts:
The full lineup and schedule will be announced on the official festival website.
Camping runs from Thursday 11:00 AM to Sunday 1:00 PM, with pitches for tents, vans, and small campervans. Larger caravans park separately; generators are not allowed. Separate camping zones for multi-day and day visitors. Showers and toilets available, medical staff on site. Vegan and non-vegan food available at fair prices on the concert grounds.
Blackdoor is explicitly political: zero tolerance for discrimination and violence, an explicit invitation to all guests to feel welcome, support staff on site for questions or incidents. A stance that is increasingly important in the heavy music scene and clearly distinguishes the festival from right-wing contaminated counterparts.
Thyrnau is a small municipality in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau, nestled in the hilly landscape between the Danube and the Bavarian Forest. The festival site can be reached from Passau main station by bus line 6103 plus about a kilometer's walk — an advantage for environmentally conscious visitors and those without a car.
Past headliners include Stoned Jesus, The Ocean Collective, and Monkey3 — international greats of the Heavy Psych scene. The concept has remained consistent: family-friendly, fair, with an explicit anti-discrimination policy.
