Ten Days of Advent

The Bernau Christmas Market is one of the largest Christmas markets in the Barnim district. At its center is the magnificently decorated Christmas tree in the Market Square. From here, the festival area extends across Brauerstraße, Bürgermeisterstraße, and Mühlenstraße – a connected landscape of lights in the heart of the old town of the former Hanseatic and cloth-making city.

Ice Rink Around the Christmas Tree

The ice rink is the festival's hallmark. It encircles the festively illuminated fir tree and is open from November 23rd to December 13th, thus longer than the actual Christmas market. Opening hours: Mon–Thu and Sun 2 PM–8 PM, Fri–Sat 2 PM–9 PM. Free admission.

Funfair and Art Market

In Mühlenstraße, the funfair spins with carousels, small rides, and candy stalls. On the second Advent weekend, the art market at St. Marienkirche is added – featuring works by regional artists and specially selected handicrafts.

Cultural Program for Families

Over the ten days, a mobile cultural program runs: brass choirs, theater groups, storytellers, walking acts. Bernau's schools and choirs perform on the market stage. The program is specifically aimed at families with children.

Barnim and Brandenburg

Bernau near Berlin is located in the Barnim district, directly on the northeastern city limits of Berlin. The S-Bahn connection makes the market a popular day-trip destination for Berliners. The historic old town with its 14th-century city wall and the St. Marienkirche form a backdrop that is particularly highlighted under Christmas lights.
