Bernau City Park — The Hanseatic City's Green Stage

Bernau bei Berlin, with around 41,000 inhabitants, is one of the largest towns in the Barnim district and located directly on the northern outskirts of Berlin. It is a Hanseatic city with a preserved city wall and a medieval town center. The City Park — established in the 1920s — is the focal point of the city's event culture. On a Saturday in September 2026, it will become an open-air ballroom.

6th Dinner Picnic — Concept and Atmosphere

The 2026 Dinner Picnic is the 6th edition of this unusual format: an open-air picnic with a clear concept. Guests in more formal attire meet at long, festively set tables, bringing their own picnic baskets, dishes, and food. The city contributes the stage program, live music, and an evening light spectacle. The atmosphere combines the familiarity of a picnic with the festivity of a grand banquet.

Seating: Tables and Picnic Blankets

Two seating options are available: numbered table seats (€5) offer reserved seating at the long table rows. Picnic blanket areas (€10) are designed for groups of about 10 people, including children. Admission is from 4:00 PM, and seats should be occupied by 7:00 PM. A small selection of food and drinks will be available on the festival grounds — but the main focus remains on the self-brought picnic.

Stage Program and Light Magic

The stage program is curated by the City of Bernau — live music (typically jazz, swing, or soul), dance groups, and a children's program in the early evening. As darkness falls, the light magic takes over: light installations in the city park, effects on the festival tables, creating an atmosphere that makes the event the highlight of Bernau's late summer.

In the Barnim District and on the Northern Outskirts of Berlin

Bernau bei Berlin is directly connected to Berlin via the S-Bahn line S2 — travel from northern Berlin takes 20–25 minutes. The City Park is within walking distance of the main train station. With the Dinner Picnic, the city positions itself as a venue with its own distinct cultural profile — an identity complemented by the Bernau City Festival, the Hanseatic Spring Market, and other events.
