Big hands-on children's festival in the city park with the theme "Childhood Heroes"
The Children's Festival in the Stadtpark Bernau is one of the largest family festivals in the Barnim district. On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the city of Bernau bei Berlin invites you from 3 to 6 p.m. to the big hands-on festival with the motto "Childhood Heroes" — from Pippi Longstocking to the Olchis, Pokémon, Paw Patrol, and modern heroes. Venue: the green space at the Pulverturm in the historic Stadtpark Bernau.
Bernau's kindergartens, after-school care facilities, and leisure centers have prepared a varied course with around 20 stands where the little guests can let off steam, do crafts, and try new things. At each station, children receive a stamp on a card — once completely filled, it can be exchanged at the organization office in the Stadtgärtnerhaus for a small surprise. A proven concept that guides the children through the entire festival grounds.
A special highlight is the stage program, which explicitly invites participation — whether dancing, singing, or small performances, the stage belongs entirely to the children that afternoon. The city of Bernau is thus sending a clear signal for the participation of the youngest city residents in cultural life.
Bernau bei Berlin is located on the northeastern edge of the Berlin metropolitan area, about 25 km northeast of the capital — and with around 41,000 inhabitants, it is one of the larger towns in the Barnim district. The historic town center with its city wall, Hussitenfest tradition, and the UNESCO World Heritage Bauhaus Bundesschule characterize the city. The Stadtpark with the Pulverturm is one of the most beautiful green spaces in the center and a popular venue for events — from summer dinner picnics to the annual children's festival.
In the state of Brandenburg, and especially in the Berlin surrounding area, free family festivals are an important social institution. The Bernau Children's Festival exemplifies how municipalities, associations, educational institutions, and parents work together to create an offering that reaches all families — regardless of income. The motto "Childhood Heroes" picks up on a tradition that has shaped children's festivals for decades: favorite characters come to life, generations connect, and the city park becomes a place of longing for an afternoon.
