Lower Bavarian Mountain and Market Festival over four days from Ascension Day to Sunday
The Bergmarktfest Pilgramsberg is the fusion of two traditional events that were previously celebrated separately: the Exaudimarkt – a historic market day with pavilion stalls along the main street – and the Bergfest, a classic Lower Bavarian Volksfest (folk festival) with a festival tent and rides. The combination makes the Pilgramsberg May weekend one of the most diverse folk festivals in the Straubing-Bogen district.
The festival traditionally begins on Ascension Day (Thursday) at 9 a.m. with a vintage car meet – historic vehicles from the region gather at the festival grounds, providing a festive start. On Friday and Saturday evenings, live bands dominate the festival tent; in 2026, the regional band Bergbeben was announced for Friday (May 15th) as part of a rock night. Sunday starts with the traditional Frühshoppen (morning pint), followed by a flea market and Children's Day with reduced prices on rides.
Pilgramsberg is a district of Rattiszell, a municipality in the Lower Bavarian foothills of the Bavarian Forest, southeast of Bogen. The village is located on a hill with a wide view of the Bavarian Forest – the namesake for the Bergfest. Despite its size (Rattiszell has around 1,500 inhabitants), the Bergmarktfest attracts visitors from the entire Straubing-Bogen district and the neighboring districts of Regen and Cham.
The main organizer is the sports club SV Pilgramsberg, which has been organizing the festival for decades. Andreas Aich from Hauptstraße 18 is the main contact person. Food trucks, market stalls under pavilions, and a traditional Maibaum (Maypole) shape the atmosphere against the festive backdrop of the sports hall and the main street.
The 2026 edition follows the proven structure of the Bergmarktfest: Opening on Ascension Day (Thursday) with a vintage car meet starting at 9 a.m., followed by a festival tent program with stage performances. On Friday evening, the regional band Bergbeben rocks the festival tent at 8 p.m. Saturday evening features another live music night starting at 7 p.m. Sunday begins at 9 a.m. with Frühshoppen, followed by a flea market along the main street, Children's Day with reduced ride prices, and the festival concludes in the late afternoon.
Market stalls under pavilions line the main street along the sports hall. Food trucks and snack stands offer a variety of culinary delights – Franconian-Bavarian folk festival classics with roast chicken, grilled fish, and traditional snacks.
Program subject to change. Current information on the SV Pilgramsberg Facebook page.
