Two days of market life in the spa gardens — stalls, children's area, and live music in the Sauerland spa town
The Sälzermarkt in Bad Sassendorf is the traditional summer event of the Sauerland spa town. On the weekend of July 11 and 12, 2026, the Kurpark (spa gardens) will transform into a vibrant market — stalls, stage, food mile, all embedded in the park-like atmosphere of the Sauerland brine spa. The concept is a colorful market event ('Buntes Markttreiben' as the organizer calls it) with a clear family focus.
The program is structured classically:
The name 'Sälzermarkt' refers to the town's salt production tradition. For centuries, Bad Sassendorf was a site for extracting salt from brine — the 'Sälzer' were the workers who extracted the salt from the local brine. Today, this history lives on as a spa town: Bad Sassendorf is a recognized brine spa with a spa clinic and spa gardens.
Bad Sassendorf is located in the Soest district, on the southern edge of the Westphalian Bight, transitioning into the Sauerland region, about 60 kilometers east of Dortmund. With around 12,000 inhabitants, it is a small town — but known regionally as a traditional spa town. The Kurpark is one of the most beautiful park areas in the region.
The event is organized by Veranstaltungen Gerstemeier (Phone 02921 3493429, Mobile 0174 3145680). Exhibitor registration is directly with the organizer. The Sälzermarkt attracts thousands of visitors annually from the Sauerland, Münsterland, and eastern Ruhr area — day-trippers, spa guests, and locals mingle in the park.

For those wanting to explore the Sauerland, combine the Sälzermarkt with a visit to the brine spa — a spa package at the Kurzentrum plus a market stroll makes for a relaxing weekend. Sunday mornings are quieter and better for browsing.
