Traditional village festival at the old bakehouse with tarte flambée and Maultaschen
Remmingsheim is one of four districts of the municipality of Neustetten in the southern Tübingen district — just under 1,100 inhabitants, a historic village center around the church and town hall, and an old bakehouse lovingly restored in recent years right on the Rathausplatz. This is exactly where the Backhausfest takes place: a weekend in which the men's choir Remmingsheim, as the organizer, transforms Hohenzollernstraße into a festival mile and the bakehouse itself becomes the center of the festival kitchen.
Over the three days, members of the choir will bake the Sängerburger — a house creation of the choir — as well as tarte flambée with bacon and onions in the classic Alsatian style in the historic wood-fired oven. Swabian classics are also served: homemade Maultaschen with broth or fried with lard, grilled pork neck, pork knuckle from the oven, and freshly baked pretzels. Food and drinks are served at several stands around the Rathausplatz; the beer comes from the region (mostly Hohenzollern or Berg), along with wines from the Württemberg wine-growing region.
The festival opens on Friday evening with the tapping of the first keg and live music from a regional cover band. Saturday is dedicated to a big festival evening event with concerts by regional bands, and Sunday begins with the traditional Frühschoppen (early morning pint) starting at 11 am — brass music from the surrounding music clubs, Swabian food, and a relaxed village atmosphere. In the afternoon, the men's choir itself performs, supplemented by guest choirs from the district.
Neustetten was formed in 1971 from the merger of the four villages Remmingsheim, Wolfenhausen, Nellingsheim, and Wurmlingen — today with just under 3,700 inhabitants, located between Rottenburg and Tübingen on the edge of the Schönbuch nature park. Each district has its own traditional festivals: the Backhausfest in Remmingsheim is one of the best known and regularly attracts visitors from the Tübingen district and beyond.
The Backhausfest Remmingsheim 2026 runs from Friday, July 18th, to Sunday, July 20th, 2026, on the Rathausplatz Remmingsheim. The organizer is the men's choir Remmingsheim, which has been hosting the festival for years and thus organizes one of the most important summer events in the municipality of Neustetten.
The focus is on the old bakehouse on Hohenzollernstraße, where tarte flambée and the choir's classic Sängerburger are baked over the three festival days. Food and drinks are served in the entire festival area around Rathausplatz and Hohenzollernstraße — Swabian specialties dominate the menu.
