Kirbe — Swabian Autumn Tradition in the Gäu
The Kirbe (dialect for Kirchweih) is one of Swabia's oldest festival traditions and originally marked the consecration of the village church. In Remmingsheim — one of the four districts of Neustetten in the Tübingen district — it is celebrated every year in October and is one of the three highlights in the village's event calendar, alongside the Mostfest and the Dorffest.
What to expect at the Kirbe
The Remmingsheim Kirbe is not an over-commercialized major festival, but an authentic village festival: catering by local associations, Swabian specialties from the festival kitchens, draft beer, cider, and wine from the region. Sociability is the focus — you sit at long tables with families from Neustetten and neighboring communities, listen to brass music and Swabian sounds, and get an impression of village life in the upper Gäu, south of Tübingen.
Remmingsheim and Neustetten
Remmingsheim, along with Nellingsheim, Wolfenhausen, and Neuhaus, is part of the municipality of Neustetten, which was merged in 1971. Just under 4,000 inhabitants are spread across the four districts between Ammertal and Schönbuch. The location is quiet, hilly, and characterized by agriculture — scattered fruit trees, fields, small forests. Those coming by car from Tübingen drive south for about 15 minutes.
Why a visit is worthwhile
The Remmingsheim Kirbe is an event for everyone who wants to experience Swabian festival culture beyond the big Volksfeste. It's not staged here; it's celebrated — as it has been for generations. Families, hikers on the Albverein trail network, cider lovers: everyone will find their place here.
