Ansbach's Relaxed Summer Festival

The Ziegenwiese in Ansbach is a traditional festival meadow in Schaitberger Straße — and on one July weekend, the venue for the city's small but fine Bardentreffen festival. The name playfully alludes to the Bardentreffen Nuremberg, the large open-air event of the neighboring Franconian city; in Ansbach, it's on a smaller scale, but more intimate and family-friendly.

Four Days, Four Moods

The program deliberately focuses on different daily themes:

• Thursday — Italian Night: Bands and singers from the Italian music scene, pasta, wine, pizzeria atmosphere
• Friday — Concert Night: Rock, pop, jazz, or singer-songwriter on the main stage
• Saturday — Children's Festival and Kirchweih: children's program during the day, beer garden and live music in Kirchweih atmosphere in the evening
• Sunday — Family Sunday: relaxed conclusion with music and snacks

What Makes the Ziegenwiese Special

Unlike commercial open-air festivals, "Auf der Ziegenwiese" is freely accessible. The stage is outdoors, visitors sit in the beer garden or on the grass, the bands often come from the region, occasionally international guests too. The Ansbach city administration and the tourism office support the festival with local partners.

Ansbach as a Stage

Ansbach is the independent city in the heart of Middle Franconia, formerly the residential city of the Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach. The Margravial Residence, the Hofgarten, and the Orangerie form a magnificent backdrop, where the Ziegenwiese functions as a relaxed counterpoint to classical festivals like the Bachwochen.
