Covered winter market in the mountain town by the Wurmberg
Braunlage lies at the foot of the Wurmberg, the highest mountain in Lower Saxony, and has been one of the region's best-known winter resorts for generations. Ski and snowboard tourism, cross-country ski trails, hiking trails, and swimming pools form the backbone of the tourism offering. With the Legendary Winter Market, the town adds its own Advent format, which enlivens the town center and at the same time offers winter vacationers an evening meeting point.
Unlike many Advent markets, the Legendary Winter Market takes place under a permanent roof. The market hall in the Neue Mitte protects against wind and precipitation, making the program enjoyable even in the typical weather conditions for the high altitude. This makes the market particularly suitable for families and older guests who do not want to stand outside for hours.
The gastronomic offer focuses on Advent classics. Mulled wine in several varieties, Lumumba, punch, bratwurst, crêpes, and sweet snacks form the core. In addition, there is a variety show program with small shows, music, and show acts, which changes weekly and makes the market an experiential format.
In December until early January, the market remains open daily. From mid-January to early February, the program focuses on weekends, extending the season well into the classic ski season. This staggered opening is one of the most important developments in recent years and clearly distinguishes the winter market from its predecessor format, Wintergefühle.
With the Wurmberg ski area, Wurmberg cable car, ice stadium, and several hiking trails, Braunlage forms a complete winter resort. The winter market complements this infrastructure and creates a permanent meeting point after a day of skiing or a walk.
The two-phase structure has proven successful in recent years. While the Advent season and the turn of the year are covered daily, the weeks from mid-January onwards focus on weekends, allowing staff to remain rested between shifts while still reaching ski season guests on weekends.
The permanent market hall is the decisive location advantage. In a region where weather changes and snowfall are frequent, the covered format offers reliable planning for both visitors and vendors.
The exact detailed program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in late autumn. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
