Three Days of Festival Tent at the Steinwiesen Festival Grounds

The tent festival of the Musikverein Steinwiesen — also known as "Kirchweih on the Festival Grounds" — is one of the annual highlights in the market town of Steinwiesen in the Kronach district (Upper Franconia). For three days, from Friday, June 19th to Sunday, June 21st, 2026, the Musikverein will transform the festival tent on the grounds into an open club and festival mile.

The Musikverein as Organizer

The Musikverein Steinwiesen is one of the oldest and most active bands in the Upper Franconian Frankenwald. Its repertoire ranges from classical brass music, polkas, and waltzes to modern cover versions. Throughout the year, the ensemble accompanies numerous club and church festivals in the region — its own tent festival in June is the highlight of the club's calendar.

What Makes a Franconian Club Tent Festival

As with the classic Kirchweihen of Upper Franconia, the Steinwiesen tent festival follows a typical choreography:

• Friday — Opening evening with live band and catering
• Saturday — Main evening with a big dance band in the festival tent
• Sunday — Frühschoppen (morning pint) with brass music, a parade, or a concert by the Musikverein, family program
• Catering with Franconian delicacies: Bratwürste (sausages), Schäuferla (pork shoulder), Sauerbraten (marinated roast beef), Hefekrapfen (yeast doughnuts), Franconian beer

Steinwiesen and the Frankenwald

Steinwiesen is a small market town in the Frankenwald, about 12 km northeast of Kronach and near the Thuringian border. The region is characterized by agriculture and small wood processing and glass companies. Club life is vibrant — in addition to the Musikverein, there are shooting clubs, fire departments, the parish, and several sports clubs.

Festival Tent Tradition in Upper Franconia

The tent festival of the Musikverein Steinwiesen is part of a long Upper Franconian tradition. During the summer months, numerous music clubs and fire departments in the region organize similar tent festivals — an important pillar for financing village clubs and a meeting place for generations.
