Christmas Market by the Lake: A Rarity in Baden-Württemberg

The Seeweihnacht at Breitenauer See is one of Baden-Württemberg's most extraordinary Christmas markets – a market directly on the lake, with huts along an illuminated shore promenade and light reflections on the water, is a rare constellation. On the 2nd Advent weekend, on Saturday, December 5th, and Sunday, December 6th, 2026, visitors from the Heilbronn district and far beyond will come to Breitenauer See.

80 Huts and Regional Exhibitors

Around 80 decorated wooden huts line the shore promenade. The focus is clearly on regionality: exhibitors from the Weinsberger Tal, the Heilbronner Land, and the surrounding area present crafts, jewelry, woodwork, ceramics, textiles, felt work, candles, gingerbread, honey, and local wines. The citizens' association Wir-Obersulm ensures a selection that excludes mass-produced goods.

Live Music on the Illuminated Shore

Along the shore promenade, live bands, choirs, brass ensembles, and solo artists provide atmospheric sounds. The lighting – fairy lights, fire pits, illuminated trees – bathes the promenade in warm light. On the lake itself, stand-up paddlers in festive costumes paddle with lights, fire-eaters perform their shows, and walking acts populate the paths.

Culinary Delights and Special Mug

Mulled wine, punch, and hot drinks are served in the official Seeweihnacht special mug – a €2 deposit, the mug is a collector's item for many regular visitors. Accompanied by bratwurst, chestnuts, crêpes, tarte flambée, candied almonds, vegetarian and vegan options, soups, cheese spaetzle, and sweets from regional bakeries.

Hands-on Demonstrations and Children's Program

Craftspeople demonstrate their work live: woodturning, felting, blacksmithing, candle dipping. For children, there are hands-on stations, small carousels, storytelling, and traditional cookie baking with the local women's association (Landfrauen). Families are explicitly invited.

Obersulm in the Heilbronn District

Obersulm is a municipality in the Heilbronn district in Baden-Württemberg, located in the Weinsberger Tal. The Breitenauer See is a 42-hectare reservoir, serving as a local recreation area and swimming lake in summer, and the venue for the Seeweihnacht in Advent. The citizens' association Wir-Obersulm organizes the festival together with the Breitenauer See recreational association, the municipality of Obersulm, and the BürgerStiftung Obersulm.
