Kriegsheim, a district with its own festival culture
Kriegsheim is one of the districts of the municipality of Monsheim in the Alzey-Worms district and is located on the western edge of the Wonnegau region. Despite its manageable size, the village cultivates its own distinct festival culture, the highlight of which is the annual Kerb. Unlike the larger Markt un Kerb in Monsheim, the Kriegsheimer Kerb has a more intimate, village-like character and places particular emphasis on club culture and sporting events.
A Kerb with a sporting accent
The special feature of the Kriegsheimer Kerb is the combination of festival activities and sporting events. A car race traditionally takes place on Saturday, attracting fans of motorsport spectacles. On Monday, further sporting events are on the programme. These programme points make the Kriegsheimer Kerb a festival that not only attracts traditional Kerb visitors but also a motorsport and sports-enthusiast audience.
Festive service and parade on Sunday
Sunday is the traditional highlight of every Rhenish-Hessian Kerb. In Kriegsheim, the day begins with the festive service, followed by the grand Kerb parade, which winds its way through the village streets at 1:30 PM. Clubs, traditional costume groups, music bands, and the Kerwejugend (Kerb youth) participate in the parade, creating the most emotional atmosphere of the festival week.
Vineyard tour as a finale
A real highlight of the Kriegsheimer Kerb is the guided vineyard tour on Kerb Tuesday. The local vintners take guests into their vineyards, explaining vine training, ongoing cultivation work, and preparations for the upcoming grape harvest. This intimate encounter with viticulture is a perfect conclusion to a Rhenish-Hessian festival week and shows how closely the Kerb is linked to the region's wine culture.
Hofgut Wiesenmühle as the festival backdrop
The Hofgut Wiesenmühle serves as the centrepiece of the festival grounds. With its historic architecture, spacious courtyard, and rural atmosphere, it provides an authentic backdrop for a Rhenish-Hessian village festival. The village square expands the festival area and hosts stalls, wine stands, and the festival stage.
