Volksfest with Oberpfalz Character
The JURA-Volksfest Neumarkt is the Volksfest of the independent town of Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz and has been a fixture in the Bavarian festival calendar for decades. With its two festival tents, extensive range of amusement rides, and traditional parade, it is one of the largest Volksfeste in the entire Oberpfalz region. The town of Neumarkt is the organizer, the Härteis family (Marco and Bine Härteis) manages the catering in the festival tents, and the Neumarkt brewery Glossnerbräu supplies the festival beer.
Program Between Tradition and Modernity
The Volksfest opens on the first Friday evening with the ceremonial beer tapping by Mayor Markus Ochsenkühn. Over the eleven days, the program alternates between the parade, senior citizens' afternoon, day for people with disabilities, horse show, sporting competitions, and family days with reduced ride prices. The grand closing fireworks on the last evening of the festival marks the end.
Amusement Rides and Festival Tents
The amusement rides are traditionally provided by the showman families Wunderle-Wittman and Hartmanns Vergnügungsbetriebe. The offerings include modern loopings, roller coasters, a Ferris wheel, and carousels for all age groups. The two large beer tents (»JURA-Hallen«) offer live music from Oberpfalz brass bands and party bands, as well as a classic festival inn menu with chicken, duck, pork knuckle, and grilled fish on a stick.
Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz
Neumarkt is conveniently located on the A3 motorway between Nuremberg and Regensburg. The town is home to Glossnerbräu and is a defining part of the Franconian-Oberpfalz brewing tradition; the JURA-Volksfest reflects this tradition on one of the region's largest festival grounds.
