Florianstag Wissen – Fire Brigade and City Festival

The Florianstag in Wissen is an event with a dual character: it honors the work of the Volunteer Fire Brigade and simultaneously creates an attractive city festival that enlivens the entire Wissen city center. Saint Florian, the patron saint of firefighters, has been a symbol of courage, commitment, and community for centuries – the Florianstag translates these values into a contemporary festival culture.

Fire Brigade in Focus

The Wissen Volunteer Fire Brigade presents itself on this day with its fleet, its personnel, and its drills. Spectators can experience firsthand how a modern fire brigade operation unfolds: instructions, rescue operations, firefighting, foam drills. Children can often put on a helmet, explore a fire engine, or master a small practice course.

City Festival Character

In parallel, the city center transforms into a festival mile. Stalls from local clubs, restaurateurs, and businesses offer food and drinks, and a stage is set up for musical performances. Residents of Wissen use the day to rediscover the city center and connect with each other.

Festive Church Service

A festive church service related to Saint Florian is traditionally part of the program. It is usually celebrated in the parish church or outdoors and underscores the spiritual dimension of the day.

Promoting Volunteerism

Beyond the festive component, the Florianstag is an important platform for promoting volunteerism: those interested in joining the Volunteer Fire Brigade or the youth fire brigade can find competent contacts here, gather information, and get a first impression of club life.
