36th Tour de Marsch — Fun and sport for the whole family through the Lüneburg Elbmarsch
The Tour de Marsch originated 36 years ago as a community initiative by the municipality of Rullstorf and has since developed into one of the most traditional family cycling tours in the region. Today, the municipalities of Rullstorf and Scharnebeck jointly organize the tour — it reflects the cooperative community and club life in the Elbmarsch, southeast of Lüneburg. The name Tour de Marsch is a playful nod to the Tour de France and the typical marsh landscape along the Elbe.
The marked route leads through the typical marsh landscape of the Lüneburg Elbe floodplain — flat, through meadows, along dikes, through avenues, and small villages. The exact route is adjusted each year by the organizer, so returning participants can experience new impressions. The distance is chosen to be family-friendly and is just as suitable for sporty cyclists as for leisurely tours with children and older participants. Refreshment stations offering water, juice, coffee, and small snacks are located along the route.
The start and finish are at the Schützenplatz Scharnebeck. The convivial festival area is also set up there: stage, catering, seating, and children's program. Many participants linger long after returning to the finish line — the Tour de Marsch is not just a bike tour, but a Volksfest (folk festival). Food and drinks are served at prices typical for a Volksfest, and the atmosphere remains family-friendly.
In 2026, the participation fee is set at €7 for adults and €2.50 for children. A T-shirt for every participant is included. Advance sale of starting documents begins on April 28, 2026, at the Tourist-Info-Büro Scharnebeck. Late registrations on the day of the event are possible in limited numbers. Participation is voluntary and without competitive sporting character.
With its flat route, moderate distance, and family-friendly character, the Tour de Marsch is an event for the whole family. Grandparents with grandchildren, school classes, and club groups also participate regularly. Refreshment stations are located along the way, and at the finish line at Schützenplatz Scharnebeck, a convivial festival area with catering and entertainment awaits. The tour is not designed as a sporting competition — everyone reaches the finish at their own pace.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
