Giesensdorf Children's and Village Festival

A Classic Village Festival

The Giesensdorf Children's and Village Festival is the annual summer event of the Giesensdorf community – a compact day festival that brings the village community together and attracts families from surrounding communities. The venue is the Giesensdorf Fire Station and the adjacent grounds. The organiser is the municipality of Giesensdorf, and the programme is coordinated by a local organising team appointed by the municipal council at the beginning of each year.

Programme Character

As is typical for a North German village festival, the event combines programmes for children and adults:

• Children's games and activities for the little ones (bouncy castle, skill games, crafts)
• Catering by local clubs – coffee and cake in the afternoon, sausages and drinks in the evening
• Music and convivial get-together
• Opportunity to talk to the volunteer fire brigade – the fire station is the venue and thematic focal point

Giesensdorf and the Herzogtum Lauenburg District

The small community of Giesensdorf is located in the Herzogtum Lauenburg district, in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, near Ratzeburg and Mölln. With around 500 inhabitants, it is a typical rural community in the Lauenburg Lake District – forests, fields, and lakes characterise the surroundings. The Children's and Village Festival, along with the May Day celebration and the lantern parade, is one of the cornerstones of the community's year.

Club Structures Support the Festival

Like all village festivals in the region, the Giesensdorf festival is supported by volunteer clubs and the volunteer fire brigade.
