Electronic Open-Air on the Rhine riverbank with Tech-House, EDM and Hardstyle — 8th edition
If you want to experience Electronic Dance Music — but not in the anonymous mega-festival crowds of Parookaville or Tomorrowland — come to the Sonnenbrand Festival at the Neuland-Park Leverkusen at the end of August. The 8th edition in 2026 continues the concept: regionally rooted, family character, high-quality DJ lineup in the Tech-House, EDM, and Hardstyle genres, directly on the Rhine riverbank.
The organizer is LittleBigEvents UG, a Leverkusen-based event agency specializing in regional electronic festivals. Unlike global players like ID&T (Tomorrowland) or Q-Dance (Defqon.1), LittleBigEvents consciously operates on a smaller scale: festival sizes where you still *know someone*, without anonymous stadium atmosphere, with shorter waiting times and more personal encounters. This is the Sonnenbrand identity.
Musically, the festival covers three central subgenres:
This genre mix caters to two trends in the German electronic audience: the house wave (Tech-House) and the already traditional Hardstyle scene (especially popular in western Germany). The 2026 lineup will typically be announced shortly before the festival on sonnenbrandfestival.de.
The venue is the Neuland-Park in Leverkusen-Wiesdorf — an approximately 20-hectare park area directly on the Rhine. In the summer of 2026, in addition to Sonnenbrand, the Holi Festival of Colours, the Mallorca Festival XXL, Stile Italiano, the Streetfood Festival, the LEVspielt Children's Festival, Live am Rhein, and the Festival of Cultures will also take place here. This concentration shows: Neuland-Park is the most important open-air location in the right-bank Rhine corridor between Cologne and Düsseldorf.
Unlike large festivals (with two or more stages, camping, multi-day programming), Sonnenbrand is a day festival (2 PM–10 PM) on a main stage with side areas for bars and street food. This compact format makes the festival affordable and accessible — an attractive format, especially for younger regional audiences who shy away from the effort and cost of a multi-day camping festival.
Sonnenbrand is part of a dense lineup of German electronic festivals: Parookaville (Weeze, Germany's largest electronic festival), Time Warp (Mannheim, Tech focus), Defqon.1 Germany (Hardstyle), Decibel Outdoor, Mayday. Sonnenbrand's niche: Local, day format, multiple genres, regionally rooted. It clearly positions itself as a *neighborhood festival* with open-air summer vibes — and not as a supra-regional mega-event.
The 8th edition continues the proven concept: day festival, three genres, regional roots. Lineup to be announced before the festival on sonnenbrandfestival.de.
