About Attler Herbstfest

The Attler Herbstfest is Bavaria's largest inclusion festival: For four days in mid-September, the grounds of Stiftung Attl in the Attl district of Wasserburg am Inn transform into an open folk festival, appealing equally to people with and without disabilities. Beer tapping, brass bands, a festival tent with pork roast, pretzels, and giant rolls, children's activities, theatre, and music — all barrier-free and supported by volunteers from the foundation's staff and residents, as well as numerous clubs from the Rosenheim district. Over 15,000 visitors attend each year. The 52nd edition in 2026 welcomes Bavarian actor Sepp Schauer as its new patron.

Stiftung Attl — Home and Festival Host

Stiftung Attl, located in the Attl district of Wasserburg am Inn, is a long-standing institution for people with disabilities in the Rosenheim district, offering housing, work, therapy, and support. In 2026, it celebrated its 150th anniversary, and the Herbstfest has been a major showcase of its work for decades. The concept: Instead of a closed social institution, the entire foundation grounds become an open festival meadow once a year.

Inclusion as a Matter of Course

The Attler Herbstfest is considered the largest inclusion festival in Southern Bavaria. Over 15,000 visitors, with and without disabilities, attend each year — a mix not commonly found at most other folk festivals in Bavaria. Residents of the foundation help shape the program, serve in the festival tent, and assist at various stations. Accessibility (wheelchair access, easy language, sensory quiet rooms) is not the exception, but the standard.

Program: Beer Tapping, Brass Music, Theatre

The program follows the Bavarian folk festival format, with a focus on inclusion and family-friendliness: Ceremonial beer tapping on the opening evening (typically around 6 PM), brass bands from the Rosenheim district, regional Bavarian festival food (pork roast, pretzels, giant rolls). For children: Stick bread baking, face painting, games course. On stage: Theatre performances by the foundation's groups and guests, musical performances, dance numbers. In the evening, the program shifts towards dancing and socializing.

Sepp Schauer as Patron 2026

In April 2026, Bavarian actor Sepp Schauer was introduced as the new patron for the 52nd Attler Herbstfest. Schauer, known from the ARD series “Sturm der Liebe” and numerous Bavarian theatre productions, takes over from his predecessor and will help shape the festival with his own opening. This choice further sharpens the Herbstfest's profile as a major cultural event.
