Traditional Angler and Fishermen's Festival on the promenade of the Schermützelsee lake in Märkische Schweiz
Buckow in the district of Märkisch-Oderland is part of the Amt Märkische Schweiz and the main town of the Märkische Schweiz Nature Park — a hilly landscape with lakes, beech forests, and moors east of Berlin. The Schermützelsee, on whose promenade the festival takes place, is the tourist heart of Buckow with its beaches, swimming areas, and boat rentals.
The festival consistently revolves around water and fishing: Live cooking demonstrations by Brandenburg chefs prepare fresh fish in front of an audience, fishing competitions attract hobby anglers from the region, and Neptune — the ancient sea god — appears in full regalia on the weekend to delight the younger guests in particular.
In 2026, the festival will celebrate its 21st edition on August 15th and 16th. It is organized by the Amt Märkische Schweiz together with the local angling club and volunteer Buckow associations. A dedicated supply of beer, sausages, and fish specialties is part of it, as are play stations for children.
The promenade on the Schermützelsee provides the ideal backdrop: a long, well-maintained promenade strip with a view of the lake, alongside a lido, boat rental, and gastronomic offerings. Families from Buckow, the surrounding area, and Berlin travel for the festival, many combining the weekend with hiking in the Märkische Schweiz Nature Park.
The Märkische Schweiz is a hilly, almost alpine micro-region in Brandenburg — characterized by terminal moraine lakes, gorges, streams, and beech forests. Buckow has long carried the nickname "Pearl of the Märkische Schweiz." The Fischerfest is one of the event highlights of the Nature Park summer — alongside the Buckow Rose Festival and the "Long Night of Art and Nature.".
On the weekend of August 15th and 16th, 2026, the Amt Märkische Schweiz and the Buckow angling club will host the 21st edition of the Angler- und Fischerfest on the promenade of the Schermützelsee. The program consistently revolves around water and fishing — from live cooking demonstrations to fishing competitions and Neptune's appearance in full regalia.
