Three days of medieval atmosphere in the perfectly preserved half-timbered town
Seßlach in the district of Coburg is one of Franconia's most extraordinary small towns. With its completely preserved town wall, three city gates (Hattersdorfer, Geiersberger, and Coburger Tor), and an entirely intact medieval half-timbered town center, it is considered a "living Middle Ages." The annual Altstadtfest takes place in this setting – one of the most atmospheric town festivals in all of Upper Franconia.
Bavaria, administrative district of Upper Franconia, district of Coburg. Seßlach is located in the Coburg region on the border with Thuringia and is one of the region's top attractions. The Altstadtfest is one of the main events where the town's medieval substance becomes a social event space.
The Altstadtfest Seßlach 2026 runs from Friday, August 14th, to Sunday, August 16th, 2026. The sporting kickoff is the Seßlach City Run on Friday starting at 5:15 PM, followed by the traditional beer tapping in the evening. Throughout the weekend, the flea market, artisan galleries, and archery on the moats open up the medieval townscape to visitors.
