The municipality of Ahorn celebrates its 950th anniversary
950 Years Ahorn is the grand jubilee of the municipality of Ahorn in the Coburg district of Upper Franconia. The occasion is the first documented mention of the village 950 years ago. The jubilee will be celebrated throughout the entire festival year 2026 with several events – the highlight being the Ahorn Midsummer Night.
The historic Alte Schäferei is the venue for the Midsummer Night. From the evening onwards, the band Barfly from Kulmbach will play jazz and swing classics, Latin rhythms, and contemporary arrangements. In a relaxed atmosphere, stands will offer variations of tarte flambée, vegan green spelt chili, bread varieties, waffles, and a wine bar with cheese cubes.
A special program item is the light installation: In collaboration with the municipality of Ahorn, Oberfranken Offensiv, and the Coburg University of Applied Sciences, the path from the town hall to the Alte Schäferei will be transformed into a luminous experience. The installation can be enjoyed over several days, complemented by guided tours in the evening.
The jubilee also includes the curious Ahorn Wheelie Bin Race: on one Sunday, daring racers will roll down the street in converted bins – a humorous traditional fun that brings the whole community together. Admission to the jubilee events is free, and the grounds are accessible. The organizer is the municipality of Ahorn.
The "950 Years Ahorn" jubilee year 2026 includes several festive dates. The central jubilee weekend is around June 19-22. The highlight is the Ahorn Midsummer Night on Friday, June 20, starting at 8 PM around the Alte Schäferei: The band Barfly from Kulmbach will play jazz, swing, and Latin all evening, with tarte flambée, vegan green spelt chili, bread varieties, waffles, and a wine bar. From June 20 to 30, the light installation by Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Oberfranken Offensiv will transform the path from the town hall to the Alte Schäferei into a luminous experience. On Sunday, the Ahorn Wheelie Bin Race will take place. Other jubilee dates are spread throughout the year (including late August). Free admission, accessible.
The municipality of Ahorn will announce the full jubilee program on ahorn.de. No artists or dates will be invented beyond the program points mentioned.
