Seven hours of city festival with Sunday shopping in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis
Are you in the Bergisches Land and looking for a city festival that isn't overcrowded but offers a packed program? Rösrath, in the southern Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis, hosts its Frühlingsfest (Spring Festival) at Sülztalplatz every spring — seven hours, a central Sunday festival with everything that characterizes a Bergisches city festival. The association Gemeinsam für Rösrath e.V. organizes it, local clubs and businesses are involved, and admission is free.
The musical heart is the sponsor stage at Sülztalplatz with three regular acts:
Around Sülztalplatz and in the side streets, there are stalls with regional products — honey, cheese, sausage, baked goods —, local craftspeople (wood turners, ceramics, jewelry), and local clubs presenting their activities. Social projects like animal welfare, environmental groups, and tourism associations are also present.
In conjunction with the city festival, Rösrath's city center shops and Möbel Höffner on the outskirts open their doors — Sunday shopping from 1 PM to 6 PM. This combination of city festival and shopping opportunity is the hallmark of the Frühlingsfest and the reason why visitors from surrounding communities like Bensberg, Bergisch Gladbach, and Overath also come to Rösrath.
The family program is characterized by the ADAC Sports Day — a hands-on station with bicycle inspections, safety tips for children, and small skill competitions. In addition, there are classic children's play areas, craft stations, and face painting.
Rösrath is a mid-sized town in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis, Cologne administrative district, North Rhine-Westphalia, with around 29,000 inhabitants. The town is located in the southern Bergisches Land, directly on the border with Cologne, and is quickly accessible via the A3 motorway (Rösrath exit) and the train line. The Frühlingsfest is one of the most important local city festivals and is complemented by the city festival at the beginning of September.
The Frühlingsfest Rösrath 2026 starts on Sunday morning at 11 AM at Sülztalplatz. Stalls, sponsor stage, hands-on activities — all program points are open until 6 PM. The live bands alternate on stage throughout the day: Dragons, Bläserchorps Much, Swingenden Gärtner, plus DJ sets by Em&Em Soundfabrik.
From 1 PM, the shops in Rösrath's city center and the Möbel Höffner store open for Sunday shopping, so the city festival and shopping visit complement each other. Food and drinks with bratwurst, tarte flambée, potato pancakes, and Bergische waffles, plus coffee, beer, wine, and ice cream. Free admission.
By car via the A3 (Rösrath/Lohmar exit). Parking around Sülztalplatz. By train to Rösrath (S-Bahn line S12 from Cologne Main Station), then a 5-minute walk.
Free admission. Sunday shopping from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Hands-on activities are free.
Frühlingsfest from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
