Customs at Schliersee
The Alt-Schlierseer Kirchtag is the traditional costume and folk customs festival of the municipality of Schliersee in the Upper Bavarian district of Miesbach. Organized by the Alt-Schlierseer Trachtengruppe e.V. (traditional costume group), it combines the church's patronal feast day, living customs, and a convivial celebration on the lakeshore into an atmospheric day.
The highlight of the morning is the boat procession across Lake Schliersee: with musicians from »Gießenbachklang« on board, the decorated boats dock at Laubersteg. This is followed by a church procession and the patronal feast service in the parish church of St. Sixtus, musically enhanced with a Schubert Mass. In the afternoon, participants in traditional costumes parade through the village in a colorful festival procession, accompanied by a communal lunch and the historic Fischschiaßn – an old marksmen's tradition by the lake.
Traditional Costumes, Music, and Sociability
With traditional costume groups, brass music (in the afternoon, the Agatharieder Danzlmusi plays), and the festival atmosphere in the spa park by the lake, the Kirchtag is an authentic experience of Bavarian festival culture – driven by the commitment of the traditional costume group and the Schliersee village community.
