Alchetaler Weihnachtsmarkt — Advent Atmosphere in a Siegerland Village

On Sunday, December 13, 2026, the Alchetaler Weihnachtsmarkt will take place around the Trupbach Fire Station in the Siegen district of Trupbach. In the middle of the Alchetal, a small side valley south of Siegen, three local associations are jointly organizing this Advent market – continuing a tradition that was revived after a break of several years. A typical Sauerland-Siegerland neighborhood festival is expected: manageable, heartfelt, with a handmade atmosphere.

Three Associations, One Market

The organizing community consists of three established associations from the Alchetal:

• Schützengilde Alchetal – the local shooting club, traditionally anchored in village life
• Heimatverein Trupbach – preserving Trupbach's local history and customs
• Heimatverein Seelbach – sister association from the neighboring district of Seelbach

Additionally, the Siegen Animal Shelter is a supporting actor. This pooling of several associations is typical for Christmas markets in rural NRW districts: alone, none would be strong enough; together, they manage a full market day with a program, catering, and atmosphere.

Program in and Around the Fire Station

The Trupbach Fire Station serves as the focal point: inside, there are food, mulled wine, and seating, while stalls with crafts, candles, Advent decorations, and sweet treats line the forecourt. Special offers:

• Lego Building Zone for children – a small play area where the youngsters can stay warm and occupied
• Craft Stalls by local vendors – typical Sauerland handicrafts, Advent wreaths, woodwork

Siegen-Trupbach and the Alchetal

The district of Trupbach has been part of Siegen since the municipal reform of 1975 and is located in the south of the city, on the border with the Sauerland-Süd. The Alchetal – named after the small Alchebach stream – is a traditional residential area with a strong club life. Trupbach itself is one of Siegen's more village-like districts; the neighborhood here is close-knit, with many families having lived there for generations. The Christmas market at the fire station is therefore more than just a sales event – it is the ultimate meeting point where the village comes together once a year.

Siegen – Southern Westphalia

Siegen, with around 100,000 inhabitants, is the largest city in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district and the center of the Siegerland – a region that is geographically part of the Sauerland but cultivates its own distinct identity culturally (language, history as a mining and industrial region, Protestant-Reformed tradition). Revival as a District Initiative

The Alchetaler Weihnachtsmarkt was revived by the three associations after a multi-year break – a conscious initiative against the decline of village meeting places in December. Such district Christmas markets in NRW have been gaining momentum again in recent years because they enable personal encounters in an increasingly digitized pre-Christmas season. In Trupbach, the format is deliberately kept small, manageable, and without large administration – the charm lies in its local character.
