African Culture in the Heart of Baden-Württemberg
The Afrika-Festival Böblingen is one of the largest free open-air gatherings for African music and culture in the greater Stuttgart area. The venue is Elbenplatz by the Oberer See — a green stage in the heart of Böblingen, which transforms into a three-day showcase for live concerts, dance, culinary delights, and crafts from July 31 to August 2, 2026.
Six Live Acts Over Three Days
The musical program is at the heart of the festival: six bands from different regions of Africa and the African diaspora bring sounds from Senegal, Kenya, Latin America, and the Caribbean to Böblingen. Confirmed acts include Gainde, Eusebia, The Black Maisha Band, Latin Spirit, SAMNAS, and the Nina Ogot Band. Between concerts, DJ Seleckta Adi spins tunes — ensuring the dance floor never has a dull moment.
Bazaar, Crafts, and Culinary Delights
Running parallel to the stage, a bazaar and craft market offers fabrics, jewellery, sculptures, and leather goods directly from West African manufacturers daily from 10 AM to 11 PM. Dembadu Catering provides the culinary delights: Yassa chicken, Mafé peanut sauce, Jollof rice, and sweet Bissap juices. Those who only know African cuisine from Stuttgart restaurants will find an unusually authentic selection here.
Böblingen — A City of Encounters
Böblingen, with around 50,000 inhabitants, is the district capital of the Böblingen district, nestled between Stuttgart and the Schönbuch nature park in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The Oberer See is a central recreational area — and it is precisely here that the Afrika-Festival fits into its tradition as a place for multicultural city festivals. The fact that admission is free makes it a true family celebration: anyone strolling through the city center on the weekend will almost inevitably end up at the festival grounds.
