43rd Böblingen City Festival — Three Days Downtown
The Böblingen City Festival is one of the largest downtown festivals in the Stuttgart region and attracts tens of thousands of visitors to Böblingen's city center every year. The 43rd edition runs from Friday, July 3rd to Sunday, July 5th, 2026. For three days, the entire pedestrian zone between the market square, Pestalozzihof, and Elbenplatz is festively transformed: stages with live music, a craft market on the weekend, food trucks from around the world, and a Sunday shopping event.
Lakeside Open Air at Elbenplatz
The highlight for music fans is the "Lakeside Open Air" at Elbenplatz, which transforms into an open concert stage on Friday and Saturday evenings. Live bands play Pop, Rock, Blues, and Jazz from 7 PM until late into the night. Free admission. With a view of Böblingen's Oberer See (in the immediate vicinity), the whole event is actually a small lakeside stage — hence the name.
Gourmet and Experience Mile
The gourmet and experience mile is spread throughout the city center: Böblingen clubs serve classic festival tent food (sausages, steaks, Maultaschen, fries), international food trucks offer specialties from Italy, Greece, Asia, and South America. Several cocktail bars and wine stands, craft beer, and Aperol islands complete the gastronomic offerings. On the weekend, all downtown restaurants and cafés are open until late in the evening.
Craft Market and Sunday Shopping
On Saturdays and Sundays, the traditional craft market opens around the market square and in Bahnhofstraße — vendors from the region and all over Germany sell household goods, clothing, jewelry, leather goods, and toys. On Sunday, July 5th, Böblingen's downtown shops open their doors from 1 PM to 6 PM — the Sunday shopping event also makes the city festival a shopping opportunity with special promotions and bargains.
Several Stages, Several Moods
In addition to the Lakeside Open Air at Elbenplatz, stages are located at the market square (Pop/Rock), Pestalozzihof (Jazz/Blues), and Bahnhofstraße (Schlager/Pop). This way, every generation and every musical taste finds a suitable corner of the city. The program is organized by Stadtwerke Böblingen in cooperation with local clubs and the city.
Böblingen in the District of Böblingen
Böblingen is located about 20 km southwest of Stuttgart in the district of Böblingen. The city is home to IBM Deutschland and Daimler-Truck, making it an important economic hub. With the S1 train, you can reach Böblingen from Stuttgart-Hbf in 20 minutes — the ideal way to then reach the festival locations on foot.
