Fairytale Christmas Market in front of the Collegiate Church and Half-Timbered Houses — five days of mulled wine, raclette, and Snow White Train
The Böblingen Christmas Market is officially called "Adventszauber" and is one of the most atmospheric pre-Christmas markets in the Stuttgart region. For five days — from the last Wednesday in November until the first Advent Sunday — Böblingen's market square is transformed into a "romantic village" of decorated wooden huts, framed by the Stiftskirche St. Dionysius to the west and the restored half-timbered houses on the other three sides.
The city of Böblingen has been pursuing a fairy tale theme for years, which distinguishes the market from many other Swabian Christmas markets. A Snow White train runs through a small themed forest, fairy tales are read aloud at stalls, and large storybook figures serve as decoration among the huts. The highlight is the Rapunzel braid installation on the town hall tower — a giant golden braid hangs from the tower window and is one of the most photographed Advent motifs in the region.
Mulled wine, punch, and hot drinks are served at several stalls — from classic red mulled wine to apple punch and non-alcoholic options for families. The food selection is remarkable: Swiss raclette with mountain cheese, Alsatian tarte flambée, waffles in sweet and savory varieties, bratwurst, chestnuts, candied almonds, and Swabian Maultaschen from the local economic development association's stand.
In the baking tent for children, cookies are rolled out, shaped, and baked — one of the most popular stations for families. In addition, there is a stage program with performances by Böblingen kindergartens, schools, and music clubs. Fairytale walks and story readers attract thousands of children over the five days.
Gift items are offered at the stalls: handmade jewelry, Christmas tree ornaments, nativity figures, wool products, candles, and wood crafts. Many exhibitors come from the greater Böblingen area and the Swabian Midland; the market is not a commercially oriented large event, but a typical southern German town Christmas market with a high proportion of regional craft businesses.
Böblingen is located in the Böblingen district in Baden-Württemberg, southwest of Stuttgart. With around 50,000 inhabitants and a significant IBM and Mercedes-Benz presence, the city is an important economic center — the Adventszauber offers a quieter, more traditional counterpoint to the bustling city life.
