Marksmen's Traditions in Weismain

The marksmen's tradition has a long history in Franconia, and in Weismain, in the district of Lichtenfels (state of Bavaria), it is upheld by the Schützengesellschaft Weismain. The annual marksmen's festival at the end of July is one of the social highlights of the small town in the Upper Franconian Maintal valley. The venues are the Schützenhaus and the historic Kastenhof, one of the most beautiful spots in Weismain's old town.

King's Shoot and Majesties

The core of the festival is the king's shoot, where the new marksmen majesties are determined. The ceremonial escorting of the majesty by the marksmen is a traditional program item that keeps the custom alive. Pavilions, standing tables, beer garden furniture, and a youth area in the Kastenhof create a cozy festival atmosphere, with the bar set up by the tower.

Festive Church Service, Morning Pint, and Parade

On Sunday, a festive church service takes place in the Kastenhof, followed by a morning pint with the local Weismain Blasmusik and a hearty lunch. The highlight is the grand parade, which starts on Sunday afternoon – accompanied by entertainment music and the participation of clubs from the region.

Atmosphere

The Schützenfest Weismain combines tradition and celebration: marksmen firing salutes, brass band music, a parade, and convivial gatherings in the Kastenhof. It is a festival that brings the town's community together and makes Franconian marksmen's traditions tangible for locals and guests alike.
