Grand Anniversary Celebration of Three Fire Brigades in Bibertal (Günzburg District)
The grand 150th Anniversary Celebration of the Silheim, Ettlishofen, and Raunertshofen Fire Brigades commemorates an exceptional moment in fire brigade history: On March 12, 1876, the mayors of the three villages – Joseph Jäckle (Ettlishofen), Josef Ott (Silheim), and Georg Holl (Raunertshofen) – jointly founded the Ettlishofen Volunteer Fire Brigade. From this nucleus, three independent brigades later developed, all of which now belong to the municipality of Bibertal in the Günzburg district.
The anniversary weekend from June 19 to 21, 2026, will be celebrated in classic Swabian style: Festival opening with a beer tapping on Friday evening, an honor night and ceremonial gathering on Saturday, a festive church service, and a grand parade with patron clubs and friendly brigades on Sunday. A brass band will provide the atmosphere in the festival tent – a typical format of Bavarian-Swabian fire brigade traditions, where heritage, camaraderie, and commitment to the community are highly valued.
The municipality of Bibertal combines several districts – including Silheim, Ettlishofen, and Raunertshofen – in the western Günzburg district, directly on the border between Bavarian Swabia and the Ulm region. The area between the Danube and Iller rivers is predominantly agricultural and home to a dense network of clubs and fire brigades. The joint 150th-anniversary celebration in 2026 is an expression of the bond between the three villages, which has grown over generations.
The grand anniversary celebration, 150 Years of the Silheim, Ettlishofen, and Raunertshofen Fire Brigades, will take place from Friday, June 19, to Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Silheim. Three days of festivities will be held in the festival tent, featuring a ceremonial gathering, an honor night, a festive church service, and a grand parade on Sunday. The program follows the classic schedule of a Swabian-Bavarian fire brigade anniversary – beer tapping on Friday, festival evenings on Saturday, and a parade of patron clubs on Sunday.
The historical significance of the date: On March 12, 1876, the then mayors Joseph Jäckle (Ettlishofen), Josef Ott (Silheim), and Georg Holl (Raunertshofen) established the joint Ettlishofen Volunteer Fire Brigade. In 1892, Silheim received permission to form its own brigade with Raunertshofen, and in 1895, Raunertshofen separated again and returned to the Ettlishofen brigade. Today, the three brigades form the backbone of fire protection in the western municipality of Bibertal.
