Mountain Festival in the Amberg-Sulzbacher Land
The Gottvaterbergfest is one of the traditional mountain festivals of the Amberg-Sulzbacher Land – a group of pilgrimage and mountain festivals centered around seven well-known mountain churches, where physical and spiritual well-being go hand in hand. It is celebrated on the Gottvaterberg above the town of Auerbach in der Oberpfalz, around the Gottvaterbergkirche.
The centerpiece is the festive service for the Holy Trinity on Trinity Sunday. Around the service, the parish ensures physical well-being with a Weißwurst breakfast, morning pint (Frühschoppen), lunch, and afternoon coffee. After a break, the Gottvaterbergfest has been celebrated again since 2023 – a living piece of Upper Palatinate pilgrimage culture between incense and bratwurst aroma, holy water and regional beer.
Faith and Sociability
The festival combines the spiritual character of a mountain pilgrimage with the conviviality of a folk festival (Volksfest). It is a meeting point for the parish community and an attraction for pilgrims and day-trippers from the entire Amberg-Sulzbach district.
