Tradition for over 70 years
The Deggendorf Spring Festival is one of the fixed spring dates in the Lower Bavarian festival calendar. For decades, the organizer has been the social association VdK Bavaria — a special feature, as Bavarian Volksfests are usually organized by breweries or municipalities. The VdK uses the proceeds for its social tasks.
Wittmann Festival Tent and Weißbier Tent
The focus is on two festival tents: the large Wittmann Festival Tent with a classic Bavarian festival tent atmosphere, brass music, and traditional innkeepers — and the Weißbier Tent with wheat beer specialties, snacks, and live bands every evening. Two breweries serve beer in the main tent — including the Deggendorf Brewery.
Amusement Rides and Family Program
Around the tents are classic Volksfest amusement rides: Ferris wheel, bumper cars, carousels, haunted house, and game stalls. Family days with reduced prices particularly attract many parents with children on weekends.
Lower Bavaria and Deggendorf
Deggendorf is located in the Deggendorf district on the Danube in the heart of Lower Bavaria, on the edge of the Bavarian Forest. The city with around 35,000 inhabitants likes to call itself the "Gateway to the Bavarian Forest". The Spring Festival ushers in the Volksfest season in Lower Bavaria — followed in the summer by the large Deggendorf Volksfest and the Donauwacht.
Opening Parade
The colorful parade on the opening day is a tradition — traditional costume groups, brass bands, flag bearers, and brewery wagons march from the Oberer Stadtplatz through the city center to the Ackerloh fairground.
