Two-day African culture festival at Beach Neukölln with live music, street food, fashion, art, and drumming workshops
Berlin is home to a growing African diaspora from West Africa (Senegal, Mali, Ghana, Nigeria), East Africa (Eritrea, Kenya, Ethiopia), Southern Africa, and the Maghreb. In recent years, several cultural festivals have emerged from this community – the African Book Festival, the Kenako Afrika Festival, and the Karneval der Kulturen (Carnival of Cultures) with a significant African presence. The African Culture Festival Berlin is one of the newest formats, consciously focusing on the connection between African summer culture and the urban Berlin beach vibe.
The festival takes place at Beach Neukölln, an urban beach project located at Treptower Straße 39 in the Neukölln district. With sand, beach chairs, lounge areas, and a beach bar, it's one of the most relaxed spots in Berlin during the summer. Its proximity to the Treptower Park S-Bahn station makes it easily accessible, and the location itself opens up the Spree riverbank for a festival audience.
The two-day program combines several elements: Live music featuring bands from various African regions (Afrobeats, Highlife, Reggae variations, traditional music formats, contemporary pop), DJ sets of African genres, a street food market offering specialties from West, East, and North Africa, a beauty and fashion market showcasing Berlin-based designers of African descent, art installations, a children's program with craft and interactive stations, drumming workshops for adults, and hair workshops focusing on natural hair care.
The event is organized by the Berlin collective KreaTIEF030, which hosts several Africa-oriented events in Berlin (including the AfroHaus series). Tickets are marketed through the platform afrohaus.ticket.io. The festival aims to be a family-friendly meeting place, bringing together Berlin's African community, visitors from all over the city, and tourists.
Following its successful premiere in 2025, the African Culture Festival continues its format in 2026. The weekend combines beach atmosphere with African summer culture – sand and the Spree riverbank serve as the backdrop for a diverse live program and a street food market featuring specialties from West, East, and North Africa.
The organizers from KreaTIEF030 curate the lineup, focusing on African and Afro-diasporic artists from Berlin and internationally. Throughout the weekend, workshops on drumming techniques (especially West African Djembé), natural hair care, and fashion styling will also be offered.
Detailed lineup and workshop times available at africanculturefestival.de and afrohaus.ticket.io.
