Small Advent market in the Köpenick city forest — forest inn on the 1st Advent weekend
The forest inn Hanff's Ruh is located in the middle of the Köpenick city forest, on the edge of the Grünau district in the Treptow-Köpenick borough. Those who travel from Berlin's city center to Grünau by S-Bahn and walk through the forest will reach the inn after 20 to 30 minutes — a small hike as an appetizer for the mulled wine. Hanff's Ruh has been a classic excursion destination for Berliners for decades and a preferred meeting point for cyclists, hikers, and dog lovers.
Since 2015, the Schnippel-Girls craft group — a collective of local crafters and artisans from southeastern Berlin — has been organizing the annual Advent market at Hanff's Ruh. 2026 marks the 11th edition. The market does not feature mass-produced goods: all stalls are run by the crafters themselves, who sell their creations on-site — jewelry made from natural materials, knitted hats and scarves, wall and table decorations, small lamps, birdhouses, nativity figures. In addition, there are culinary stalls: homemade liqueurs and jams, home-baked cookies, vegan soaps.
The program is classic and manageable: a Christmas atmosphere with the scent of fir trees, mulled wine, roasted almonds, fresh waffles, and bratwurst at moderate prices. A craft station for children is run by the local garden club — children can make stars, snowflakes, or small Christmas tree ornaments. Unlike the large Berlin markets, the atmosphere is personal: the exhibitors are often neighbors, the noise level is low, and the crowds are moderate.
The Treptow-Köpenick borough is the largest in Berlin by area and also the richest in forests and water. Müggelsee lake, Müggelberge hills, the old town of Köpenick, Wuhlheide park, and the Köpenick city forest make it the green lung of southeastern Berlin. Advent markets like Hanff's Ruh, the market at Schwedenkirche Adlershof, or the Bölschefest in Friedrichshagen showcase the village character that has been preserved here despite its Berlin address.
On the first Advent weekend of 2026 (November 28/29), Hanff's Ruh will once again open its courtyard for the Advent market. As every year, the Schnippel-Girls craft group is in charge — they set up the stalls, manage the program, and ensure the typical, personal atmosphere. Inside, mulled wine and liqueurs warm you up, outside, bratwurst and almonds sizzle, and in the courtyard, children craft at the stall run by the local garden club. Everything is payable in cash — a peculiarity of the forest inn that is part of its charm.
Take the S-Bahn to Grünau, then walk through the Köpenick city forest (approx. 25 min) — a beautiful Advent stroll. Or take bus 165 to Hanff's-Ruh.
S-Bahn line S8 to Grünau, then walk through the forest (20–30 min. walk) or take bus 165 to the Hanff's-Ruh entrance. Marked paths in the forest lead to the forest inn. Car: Parking is available at the edge of the forest, but limited.
Free. Payment at the stalls is cash only — card payment is not accepted.
Access is possible via two side entrances; there is a ramp with a 7% gradient at the rear entrance. Table reservations in the forest inn are only possible by phone or on-site.
