Advent season in the Pinneberg Rosenflecken
Uetersen — the rose town in the Pinneberg district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, southwest of Hamburg — celebrates Advent in a particularly festive manner. The Interessengemeinschaft Handel und Gewerbe Uetersen e.V. (IHG), together with the city of Uetersen, orchestrates an Advent programme over seven weeks that encompasses the city centre, the old town, and the Langes Tannen museum ensemble.
From November 18th, 2026, to January 9th, 2027, Advent huts will light up the pedestrian zone. The motto "Kieken, Klönen, Köpen" (Look, Chat, Buy) describes the character: cosy, communicative, Low German-North German. The huts offer:
On Wednesday, November 11th, 2026, the traditional St. Martin's Day procession will wind its way through the historic old town around Uetersen Monastery. Children with homemade lanterns, Saint Martin on horseback, and musical accompaniment — one of the images that characterise Uetersen in winter.
The Advent market at the Langes Tannen museum ensemble is the quality destination for high-quality handicrafts. In the museum barn, selected exhibitors present handmade products — gift ideas that you won't find at a normal Christmas market. Atmospherically embedded in the historic museum ensemble — no mass tourism, but quality craftsmanship.
Unlike the large Christmas markets in Hamburg (15 minutes away by S-Bahn), Uetersen focuses on the local and authentic. The IHG markets the city centre as an Advent shopping destination — illuminated shops, open Sundays for shopping, free parking on Advent weekends are often part of it in many years. Those looking for a quieter Advent in the Hamburg metropolitan region will find it in Uetersen.
From November 18th, 2026, to January 9th, 2027, the rose town of Uetersen becomes an Advent town. The main activities in the pedestrian zone are organised by the Interessengemeinschaft Handel und Gewerbe Uetersen e.V. (IHG), while the events at Langes Tannen are supported by the museum foundation in cooperation with craftspeople.
As in previous years, a combined Advent mile is expected: illuminated huts, stalls, gastronomic offerings, open Sundays for shopping, and accompanying programmes with music and activities for families.
