Anniversary Celebration Programme
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the 200th anniversary of the Nordseeheilbad Helgoland will be celebrated with an all-day programme. The island will transform into a maritime adventure world.
Three Central Components
- Street Festival along Lung Wai (main street in Unterland): family activities, island gastronomy, market stalls, tangible island history.
- Concert "Hamburger Goldkehlchen": performance by a selection of Hamburg's best singing voices with a maritime repertoire — the musical highlight of the day.
- Börteboot Experience with MS HELGOLAND: traditional open wooden boats offer guests a special maritime tour — an experience unique to Helgoland.
Extended Return Journeys
- FRS Helgoline (from Hamburg): return 9:30 PM
- Cassen Eils (from Cuxhaven): return 9:30 PM
- Adler & Eils (from Büsum): return 10:00 PM
This makes day trips possible even for guests from Hamburg, Cuxhaven, Büsum, and Brunsbüttel.

Tips
If possible, plan for an overnight stay — Helgoland in the evening is an experience in itself. Those interested in the Düne and its seals should use the Düne ferry (separate trip).
1826 — The Birth of German Seaside Resort Culture
In 1826, Jacob Andresen Siemens, a Helgoland shipbuilder and visionary, founded the first German seaside resort on Helgoland's Düne. A joint-stock company was established to finance it. With this official recognition, Helgoland became a "Seebad" (seaside resort) — an honour that had far-reaching consequences for the small rocky island in the North Sea: it became a fashionable summer destination for the German bourgeoisie and remained so even after its takeover by the German Reich in 1890.
200 Years Later
The anniversary year 2026 marks not only the founding of the seaside resort but also the "Save the Date" for a unique island story: Helgoland was a pirate island, home to the Heligoland Frisians, a British colony, a German fortress island, the target of the largest non-nuclear detonation in human history (1947), a nature reserve — and today it is one of Germany's most impressive travel destinations.
The Anniversary Programme
On June 6, 2026, the island will transform into a grand celebration. Three main focuses:
- Street Festival along Lung Wai (main street in Unterland) with family activities, island gastronomy, and market stalls.
- Concert by the Hamburger Goldkehlchen as the musical highlight — a selection of the best singing voices from Hamburg will perform maritime songs and hits from 200 years of seaside resort culture.
- Börteboot Experience on MS HELGOLAND — the traditional open wooden boats, used for generations to ferry guests from the ship to the island, will embark on a special maritime tour.
Travel and Extended Return Journeys
Especially for the anniversary, the three shipping companies FRS Helgoline, Cassen Eils, and Adler & Eils have extended their return departure times to 9:30 PM – 10:00 PM. This makes day trips from Hamburg, Brunsbüttel, Cuxhaven, and Büsum possible without guests missing the main programme.
